Holiday Inn Niagara Falls-Scenic Downtown, an IHG Hotel

Really nice hotel. Very new and clean. The staff did an incredible job with the surge in visitors from the eclipse weekend. Nice pool and connected restaurant. Super close to Falls State Park, so you could walk everywhere. My lower star rating is really based on unfair pricing. I booked and prepaid for the room well in advance, but upon checkin was told that I had to pay an $80 hotel fee and $15-ish to park. I consider that level of ad hoc fees to be unreasonable. The hotel took advantage of guests, knowing that rooms were sold out everywhere, we couldnt just go to another hotel. I really feel like the hotel extorted its guests, adding about a 70% addition onto the base price of the room. The fees werent disclosed at the time of booking.

Decent cheap hotel. We stayed for the eclipse so obviously wayyyyy overpaid for what the quality of this place is, but I think on a regular stay the low price (around $100/night) is acceptable. The location was superb, a 10-minute walk to Niagara Falls State Park and an easy walk to anything else downtown. Super quick drive to get over the Canadian border too. The indoor pool was great and my 6-year-old used it every single day. There was a funky smell in the hallways. In our room the wallpaper was peeling off in several places and the shower drain was clogged up and would pool water like a bath at our feet in the shower. By the end of our 3-day trip, gunk was coming up out of the drain. The temperature controls for the room didn't seem to work well, I lowered the temperature as low as I could to sleep but it never got the temperature I wanted. The outlet in the bathroom did not work. No idea what's going on with that Great American Arcade that's attached, we only saw four games and no advertisement so didn't even bother to investigate further. Head over the border and take your kid to the Canadian midway instead. The service at the front desk was friendly. Overall it wasn't terrible since we were only in our room to shower and sleep - it was just extremely overpriced for our stay. It'd be worth staying here if you get it cheap and don't plan on hanging in the room too much. Food & drinks: Their free coffee tasted awful. There's no breakfast provided here, though an Anchor Bar is attached and kids get one free meal (front desk didn't mention this, we were lucky the server did). We were not impressed with the food there though. $20+ each plate for a very mediocre breakfast so I recommend going elsewhere. (The coffee also wasn't great here)

Room smelled like a ball pit after 100 kids were playing in it on a hot summer day and the windows dont open to air it out and the AC smells like a wet dog.
