I had a water leak near my meter in the front yard. The plumber looked over the yard. He dug near the meter, found pipe going to the house. Instead of digging towards the house he saw a second pipe coming from the main pipe and water dripping from that pipe. He cut out the leaking section and replace it with a new one.
And it is still perfect ...no leaks.
