I really enjoy researching my next vehicle, but the actual purchasing process is rarely straightforward or enjoyable. This was largely a good experience with one exception, but that was immediately remedied. The true measure of an organization is how it responds when things dont go according to plan. In this case the hiccup was small, but salesperson Tom and Boardman Subaru handled it splendidly. Im lucky enough to live within an hour and a half of several Subaru dealerships, so I cast a wide net after deciding on the vehicle, trim, preferred colors, and options that I wanted. Where other dealers fell short on communication (called while I was at work and unavailable AFTER asking my preferred method) and messed around instead of providing the complete out the door numbers that I asked for, Boardman Subaru exceeded my expectations. Internet extraordinaire Doug had quotes for different vehicles matching the two trims/colors/packages that I inquired about in my inbox very quickly. He got another quote to me within minutes after I called him when I saw that a vehicle in transit to their location in our top color choice with the exact accessories we wanted and no other frills. We live an hour to an hour and a half from the various dealerships, so Boardman Subarus exceptional communication and ability to handle most of the purchase process remotely was important to me. When we signed our paperwork, the final purchase price and amount financed were where I had calculated they would be after a last minute change to titling and registering in a different state than we had originally planned. It was a pleasant surprise to not need to go back and forth over those numbers when we sat down to sign- Ive had past experiences where I have had to have a dealer correct the numbers on the final paperwork before signing because the sales tax was incorrect and/or the purchase price, etc. did not match what was quoted and agreed upon. The car I thought I was purchasing had apparently been traded to another dealer shortly before my deposit was taken. They did find a nearly identical car, but they failed to inform me before we made the drive to sign and take possession. Unfortunately, this car was missing two accessories that I wanted and expected based on the window sticker for the car I thought I was buying and had an option that I did not want, which was why the price was very nearly the same. Tom had the rear seatback protectors installed before we finished signing, and they gave me an IOU and an appointment to install the rear bumper cover on a day with better weather next week. I was initially dismayed by the last minute vehicle swap, as the original car was the exact trim/color/options/dealer installed accessories that I wanted and was quoted and ready to go for my insurance based on that VIN. While I wish they had communicated the issue to me ahead of time, I do really appreciate that they quickly supplied one missing piece and are installing the other next week. Well definitely return to Boardman Subaru if were ready to replace my car before our next move.
