        The VA just completed a massive reconstruction surgery of my left shoulder. It was such a high level of repair that I could not even start PT until 6 weeks after my surgery. By that time my shoulder was just about frozen in place. When my wife was allowed to remove the sling and attachments from my arm for the first time to give me my first walk in shower, I could not even move my arm. That really scared me. I have always been a very active guy, U.S. Marine, retired from 2 law enforcement careers, play golf regularly, do a lot of woodworking, drive a tractor and a mower, and take care of our property and animals. The thought of not being able to get back to doing all of that really bothered me. Today I had my 3rd visit with the folks at Select PT in Shawnee, Ok. They started off very slowly on each visit and gradually increased the motion of my arm and just started light movement of my shoulder today. Everything is coming together very nicely. I really believe I could brush my teeth with my left arm now, If I wanted to. I ain't going to try that yet, just because I am afraid of my wife and the VA surgeon, who have both threatened to put me in a strait jacket inside of a rubber room if I do something stupid and mess up my shoulder cuff again. I guess you actually can teach an old dog a new trick. Fear is a great motivator to learn to change your behavior. Select PT is always very well kept and organized. The manager and all the PT folks are caring, and polite. They have gotten started on me every visit before my appointment time. They always spend time talking with me while I am waiting for my driver, the afore mentioned wife, to come pick me up. They always send me a reminder the day before each visit. I have had to go through PT several times in several states and bases. I have never found a more professional, polite, or results producing unit that Select PT in Shawnee.
