my trust was supposed to be in the care of this firm for the past two or so years; good thing nothing happened to me because it wasn't and they don't know where it is. The attorney who informed me was more focused on her retirement. Good that she's retiring!

I contacted this law firm in June 2021 after seeing their firm listed on a blog post detailing Oregon's best civil rights attorneys. I had a civil rights issue, and one potentially worth some money (as if that should be important). However, when a representative of the firm responded, it was with a stock "please seek out the Oregon State Bar for information." The lawyer took a few moments away from other clients to tell me- a person who amply indicated in my message to the firm that I am financially destitute and have no money- to go search out a resource that ultimately costs money simply because they don't have the right specialty. Anyone capable of graduating law school and becoming a lawyer can develop a specialty in any area of the law relatively easily, and, honestly, if they claim they can't, that should be a major red flag to any potential clients in an era where everyone- from the maintenance worker up- is expected to "wear multiple hats." Even professional athletes these days are expected to try and be "unicorns," or multi-positional team players who can fit any role. How is a lawyer supposed to best serve their client if they show an absolute unwillingness to do research? If a lawyer is unwilling to learn new things, how will they react when faced with corporate attorneys from Portland, Salem, or Eugene? Not trying might work in a small place like Ashland, but it's not particularly meaningful in the real world. Particularly the world of employment law- which this lawyer said they specialize in. If these lawyers represent real clients in any meaningful way, then those clients are being harmed by ineffective counsel. A fast food worker or front desk clerk who gets injured on the job or wrongfully terminated- and, in this case, the wrongful termination might involve illegal discrimination- the employer is going to be very, very careful and deliberate in covering it up. So, again, any lawyer that shows such blatant disregard for someone that is suffering and exhibits a callous indifference to their needs is not worth hiring for a massive cut of one's settlement. And someone who wants to just make a phone call, fill out a stock form, then settle at whatever rate the computer churns out, they'll end up taking a hefty cut of the money a real person deserves for some tangible harm. That money deserves to go to an employee who lost a finger, not some person who may be the sort who lives in the rich part of Ashland, secretly mocking everyone in Medford and Klamath Falls because they once drank Boba Tea in an expensive apartment paid for by the Ford Foundation and now charge clients what might be a literal arm and a leg to make a phone call.

Susan Krant and her staff gave us the VIP treatment when we sought her out to review our Will and Family Living Trust. She knows the law and the changes in the law since we first had our trust drawn up, and she amended our Trust to better protect us and our wishes for our successors. She brought to our attention areas we werent aware of, such as the marital trust which makes things much easier for the surviving spouse. She not only made sure our wishes would be carried out upon our passing, but also that our successors would know these wishes were made out of our love for them. I am so grateful for her professional yet personal approach with us. I feel a great sense of relief knowing our wishes will be carried out.
