Thanks, Chief. Your follow-up re-stored my faith in the Beaverton Police Department. You have GOOD, TOUGH COPS. With hearts, much, much bigger, than the guns they carry, to protect us. To find that out--all you need to do--is call them, when you need help. All you need do, is take your 5-year-old to the Police Station, find a COP, and tell your kid---THIS, is one of the good-guys. If Daddy's not here--find one, THAT LOOKS JUST LIKE THIS. Then, you MIGHT get, your rocket-scientist!

Thank you Beaverton and the Beaverton Police Department. Roughly a year ago, a Beaverton citizen did a hit-and-run on my car while I was parked near the Nike campus. I was a high-tech construction crew manager working on a new Nike building at the time. One gracious Beaverton resident noted the incident and took down the car's and driver's descriptions. This resident then went out of his way to get in touch with me to give me the information as well as his contact information in case the police needed to talk to him. I was astonished that this resident took the time to help me and ensure justice was being served. But that was just the beginning of my positive experience. When I contacted the police, the original officer was incredibly courteous and helpful. He explained his shift was nearly over and that another officer would take it up. The next officer called me later in the evening, and was even more helpful and kind than the original officer - if that was even possible. The second officer new much of the details, so it was obvious the first officer did an excellent job in ensuring the following officer could assist. The second officer paid a visit to the perpetrator and was able to obtain and forward the perpetrator's contact as well as insurance information. Towards the end, the second officer asked, would you like to press charges? I said no because of the kindness that was extended to me by Beaverton. Then the second officer asked "Is there anything else I can do for you?" in such a pleasant and sincere manner. This is what hit me hard and why I'm writing this comment. I was always taught to respect law enforcement, and sometimes in this day and age, this can be difficult to do when you meet apathy by officers, or experience downright rudeness or worse. But here an officer was doing the exact opposite, he was showing respect to a person in need. If this incident were to occur in my own city, I would not expect to be treated as such, let alone receive any assistance whatsoever from the police department regarding a standard hit-and-run collision. Thank you. Beaverton: You have an outstanding police department. They understand what it means to SERVE AND PROTECT.
