This narrow trail takes you through shrubby areas, towering trees, and even a little mountain meadow. Absolutely stunning views at the top. We had the trail almost completely to ourselves, only seeing one other couple and their dog. The trail was not necessarily well maintained as there were many times we had to walk on or around fallen trees blocking the path, even crawling under a few as well. We didn't mind but the extra difficulty may matter to some people. Be aware the last bit of the drive to get here is a VERY rugged dirt/gravel path riddled with huge potholes.

Great hike to a fire lookout with stunning 360 views. Snowed in until June. I did it in the snow one time and found my own way the first time, but that was an adventure!!

This trailhead is about a 45 minute drive from the Blue River Reservoir/campground on gravel roads. The last mile is not for large campers/rvs or vehicles with low clearance. The trail is one-mile long and travels trough beautiful old-growth forest and a meadow. It finishes at the Carpenter Mtn lookout with beautiful views of the Cascades Mtn range. One of the best views in the state. There is space for about a half-dozen vehicles but on occasion can get crowded. There aren't many visitors willing to make the long drive so you often have it all to yourself. The fire lookout is staffed from late June until mid-October when the snow starts flying. The last few ft. is a scramble but most can make it. :-)
