Good afternoon, Gordon. Although I truly value your input, it is inaccurate, and it is also quite rude and disrespectful... I will go in depth to the best of my ability.Your requested service was as follows.1.) install a vent on a kitchen drain line. This meant cutting out your tubular sink drain, and installing a new schedule 40 ABS drain from the wall to the sink. This service alone through any company in town would be above your "$300-400" amount...2.) You requested, per your plumbing inspector, to have a dual angle stop installed on the hot side of your piping serving that downstairs sink. Your existing faucet had integral braided non-removable supply lines. These connections are only intended to be connected to a shut off one time, and if you try to reconnect them again, it commonly leaks. To install the dual angle stop, that hot supply line needed to be disconnected. This situation required me to replace the faucet with a faucet that has quality supply lines that can be connected multiple times. The old existing faucet broke upon un-installing it, which is common. Even if it didn't break, that faucet should never be re-installed anywhere because the risk of leaking and causing water damage. Nobody, especially plumbers, would install an old faucet somewhere else due to liability/risk. I hear from clients that they're getting quoted $500-600 for just 1 angle stop replacement which is much higher than my approximate cost of about $250. I also hear most people are being quoted $800 for a kitchen faucet, which is also much higher than my installed cost.3.) My hourly rate is 10% less than the low average of just about all hourly plumbers in town and even lower than flat rate companies whos prices usually reflect $300-400/hour in labor alone and are hidden within their total cost that they don't break down for you. I commonly ask clients how much they're being quoted so that I can charge less and provide fair amounts to my clientele.4.) I quoted you approximately $500 in material, and it was $550. So $50 above...that is not significantly more.I drove from your house in happy valley, all the way to tigard, to the nearest supply house to get the faucet that matched your existing one because no one else had it, and I did not charge any travel time at all because I don't think charging travel time is the right thing to do. I drove and waited at the supply house altogether about 1.5 hours, all at zero cost to you.5.) I quoted you that it would take about 3 hours to rework your kitchen drain with schedule 40 ABS, install the new faucet, and drain down your 5400 sq ft home to install a dual angle stop. It end up being 3.75 hours. Overall, I feel that's very accurate and extremely reasonable on price point, only $25 above in material and .75 hours above the 3 hours quoted, which was an additional $138.75 in labor.6.) In regards to your insult of me being "very slow"... for one that's very disrespectful and rude... and secondly I focus on quality over speed. I quoted you on the approximate installation time, and you approved. You knew from the very beginning that this was not a $300-400 job. So if this was outside of your expectations and budget, then why even proceed?I know for a fact, that my prices are better than the vast majority of plumbers these days, because I'm told about it quite regularly by clients. I also pride myself in treating my clients and their homes with respect, and providing top quality installations at the same time.Have a good day, Gordon.
