Dr. Garey is the best doctor I have seen in YEARS. She is straight-forward and doesnt tend to sugar-coat things, but is still kind in her delivery. She is easy to talk to, really listens to whats going on with my health and is good about taking my opinion into account. I also appreciate that if something is outside of her scope shes honest about it and gets me referred to someone appropriate. I always leave my appointments feeling respected and that she is willing to help me in any facet she can.

Very personable. Listens great. Ask about your needs and concerns. No long waits. Shows that she is investigated. And I appreciated that after seeing me one time, and on the second visit she had remembered that I had don't like some textured foods.

I saw Dr. Garey for a first time visit to establish myself as her patient. In that visit I disclosed that I have IBS mainly to get that out in the open, given that I know its a critical part of my current health. That being said, I was trying to explain that Ive tried many things, and that many doctors have tried to put a bandaid on the problem rather than do a deeper dive. When I talked about how eastern medicine has helped me, I could sense judgement from her. When I said I wasnt really looking for a solution and gave feedback about how I was just looking for empathy and a promise of support in pursuing my holistic health from my primary physician, she was resistant and defensive. When I became defensive as a response, and then tried to reel back my emotion (this is something very emotional and triggering for me), she spoke to me by saying im like a wounded dog that needs help but doesnt know how to receive it. I dont know how someone in a professional field let alone a doctor thinks that is ok to say, but its absolutely not. When I noted that she didnt ask me about my stress or sleeping habits or diet she responded with defense and said you yourself said you have stress, theres no way I can measure that, quickly dismissing what I said. She commented on how my being underweight could play a role in my problem and said it with a tone - absolutely unacceptable and assumptive. This is not okay. I asked her to put in a request for a comprehensive lab panel, but she said that I had one still available from my previous doctor (who left providence). I was unable to go get them done within the two months they expired because of work and life and when I requested for her office to submit a new panel request they were unwilling to work with me to do so without coming in again (excuse me? No way). The only reason why I would come to you again is to get me panel done because its necessary and everything is moving extremely slow right now in the field. I have no interest in seeing her again and Im so disappointed in her apathy and quality of care. Too much pride to recognize that her job is to help the wounded dogs Edit - 8/12/2023, Im currently post-op and diagnosed with stage 4 endometriosis, the cause of all my gastrointestinal distress + other pains. Thank you to 2 wonderful medical providers I found that dont gaslight and disrespect their patients. I hope providers like Garey think twice before dismissing patients with REAL pain and actually provide the support that patient needs.
