In April 2022, we moved into our new home by Holt Homes at the Hearth at Millican Creek in Lafayette, OR. Overall, our experience was very good, and we are pleased with our purchase. I'll share some pros and areas for improvement that might be helpful to others considering Holt Homes. Pros: 1. Great communication. Even our realtor commented that he's never seen such great communication from a builder. A big part of that was due to Corrin, who was the sales agent we dealt with. She was so down to earth, understanding, helpful and quick to respond to our questions. When we first came to look at a house here, we were super impressed with her and that continued throughout the process. 2. Professionalism. The whole process was very well organized and structured. We were kept informed throughout the process of what was happening and what was coming next. 3. The final product. Of course there are things we would change about our home, but it really has met most of what we were looking for. We've had no major issues since we moved in. George, who conducted the pre-drywall walkthrough, and Peter, who conducted the "walkthrough" and "signoff" meetings did a really nice job of addressing any questions and concerns we had. It was clear that they, and Holt Homes, really intend to make their customers happy. They also finished our home about a week ahead of schedule. 4. The warranty. We have great confidence that if anything goes wrong, Holt will take care of it. They offer a 30 day timeframe to report major issues (we didn't have any) and also 1 year warranty. 5. The neighborhood. This town wasn't even on our radar, but after looking at many areas around Portland, we love this area the most. We can walk to some restaurants in Lafayette, and we love being close to McMinnville, Carlton and other great towns in the Willamette Valley. 6. While we didn't get to pick some of the options we would have liked, but we are grateful we got to pick so many colors and other options. Areas for improvement: (While we are very pleased, there is always room for improvement) 1. Improve designs in some spots. For example, the toilet in the master bathroom is separated and has it's own door. In that small room, there is small linen closet. The issue is that you have to close the toilet door in order to open the door to the linen closet. This could have been remedied by having the door to the toilet open out instead of in. 2. We weren't able to choose any interior paint colors, so everything (even the handrails in the stairwell) were painted white. We hired a painter to paint some walls for us after closing, but it would have been nice if Holt had given us some options for wall paint besides white. The baseboards and trim really look better when contrasted against another color. 3. Environmentally friendly options. With climate change, I'd like to see builders moving away from grass and irrigation systems and towards more environmentally conscious options. Along the same lines, I'd like to see Holt offer options like solar panels, ceiling fans and energy saving options like smart thermostats and switches. 4. It would be nice if the neighborhood included a common space, like a small park, that residents could share. Overall, we definitely recommend Holt Homes, and we are glad we decided to purchase a home here.
