Super decent place, parking can be tight but overall a very nice complex. Only one compactor on site, and they really could benefit from 2. It seems like all of these negative reviews are from real unsavory people who just want to feel like they got the last word in before they got evicted. I was very hesitant to move in here but it's been a very pleasant experience.

If youve read the other reviews youve got the picture. There is not anywhere close to enough parking. There is a single dumpster and it is not centrally located, so I hope the idea of taking the trash out in your car sounds appealing to you. Office staff in my experience weren't terrible, just inexperienced; turnover seems very high, I think they went through three or four different front desk people in the year and a half we lived here. The person who dealt with our move out forgot to schedule an in-person walkthrough, and the complex decided to charge us our whole deposit and more for cleaning. You will not get your security deposit back.

I have had to adjust my review since living here, look below for the review I had previously! I have lived at this property going on 4 years now, and while I have enjoyed living here, I recently transferred apartments and have been blindsided. To make a long story short, I was approved originally to move in years ago with $1000 deposit on top of first months rent, which is ridiculous but I managed. I've recently transferred and was approved for a transfer at $500 deposit. OK no big deal, less than before and at least I will get my other deposit back, right? WRONG Despite the apartment being spotless when I left it, they have charged me almost $900 for "cleaning" "paint/wall repair" "carpet cleaning." With the subtraction of the last months rent as well, I ended up OWING them almost $200. Needless to say I will be pursuing legal action to get that money back as it is exorbitantly higher than industry rates for ALL charges. MDI management has a reputation in Salem for being conniving, money grabbers, and largely neglects their properties despite constantly raising rates. Just drive by, you'll see the siding flying off the building, and it will stay on the ground for a few months. I am NOT HAPPY at all with how this is being handled. Pre-2024: I've lived at Gateway Village for about 5 months so far, it's been a nice apartment complex! The remodeled apartments are nice and updated on a budget (no microwave but who needs that radiation anyway). Im a big fan of the vinyl "wood texture" flooring so that's a nice touch too for the kitchen and living room. Maintenance was messed up a little bit when I moved in, but they came by to patch things up with a work order. Overall a nice apartment and I plan on renewing!

There has been mail delivery issues and mail theft issues since I moved in. The mailbox is constantly getting broken into and tenants mail is being stolen. Management doesnt care and peoples identities are at risk! Not ok and not enough is being done. Very sub par management that doesnt care about their tenants. Cant wait to move. Also constant dog poop on property. One garbage can that is constantly overflowing, disgusting and not big enough for number of apartments/tenants. Parking rules are ignored and management doesnt care. Regret moving here. Probably going to break my lease its that bad here. I dont feel safe or cared about. As you can see by the comment they left under this they just wanna make excuses and not take any responsibility. Nothing is being done about the crimes here. Cameras would help. A locked mail room would help. Yet I just keep getting told there is nothing they can do. If my identity get stolen or any financial info I will be pursing legal assistance

If I could rate this zero stars, I would. They charge different rates of rent for the same square footage of apartments. Trying to get ahold of anybody in the office is a nightmare. There is a mold issue within all of the apartments and food goes bad less than a week. Parking is trash, and good luck trying to take your garbage out... they'll fine you 50 dollars if you leave your garbage out. Who wants to live in a house with trash that needs to be taken out? Especially when you have children. Maybe get a second trash compactor so nobody gets sick. There are no cameras on site, especially by the mail boxes. I had my new debit card stolen out of my mail box and activated, and fraudulent charges were added to my account. That was a battle in itself to resolve. Especially after finishing my maternity leave. Don't rent here. You'll find something better out there.
