I loved this class. So fun and educational! My only advice is to maybe have a price range of the terrariums listed online so people are prepared for the cost of them. I didn't know what to expect and can see how some might be surprised.

This was a very interesting and useful talk about terrariums, how to put them together and care for them. We built two! Prices are resonable and Gregg's friendliness and help are exceptional.

The teacher and class are fantastic! The only thing is the clarity of the cost. You should be prepared to spend around $200+ when walking in the door. While sometimes a Groupon or other discount can make it slightly less, the general cost of items can be steep. However, the services they offer for the life of the plants (expected around 40 years!) is well worth the price paid for the class! It just can be a little tough if you arent expecting it. Overall, a phenomenal experience and worth the trip!

We have had our terrariums for over a year now and have made two larger sized beauties and one special custom designed tank specifically made in person with poison dart frogs in mind. Let me start by echoing the sentiment by many- Mr. Harris KNOWS his stuff. He is passionate and extremely well educated and really, truly supports each and every one of the terrariums he helps creates. I will also echo many in the past who might go into one of the group classes thinking the portion of a class fee going towards their chosen glass terrarium vessel means your out of pocket will be smaller. DO NOT expect to get many options larger than a hand/palm sized vessel at the lower end of costs. If your price range is under 100$ each person, your options will naturally be very small. The antique apothecary style glass-hand blown and thick will be hundreds. Come into the class knowing you are paying for Mr. Harris's expertise, AND that you will also need to bring at minimum 75-400+ extra dollars for your completed terrarium as you may have imagined in size. Or lower your expectations and imagine a small palm sized beauty. All this said, here are my star reductions: Do NOT expect consistent shop hours. In fact, I highly ask everyone interested in coming to this shop when you DO NOT HAVE A SCHEDULED CLASS-to just don't. I humbly suggest to Mr. Harris to make his shop-hours 'by appointment only' and for all customers to call and schedule something in the books first or you may find yourself driving into Silverton and no one being around. This has happened twice to us. Speaking of the lifetime guarantee-The generous 'no fault' terrarium fix is at Mr. Harris's artistic liberty- I never asked if we could come in and fix it ourselves so I could be mistaken, but I've been in-shop a few times where folks come in and drop off an item and he'll fix it over a span of several weeks. We dropped off our terrarium at the end of December letting Mr. Harris know 'a few weeks' is perfect turn around- give or take the recent ice storm etc- it could have been a good opportunity to wander across property to the shop (he lives right next door) to take care of back order terrarium fixes. Safety first and all. I called to inquire about the terrarium yesterday and was told it could be done end of afternoon. I couldn't drive from Salem to pick up so asked if Saturday was alright. Yes, it was...so I said I'd be over at opening time (11am) this morning. I even called and left a message telling him I was leaving my house. I arrived-- he wasn't there- This isn't the first time I've had to wander around looking for him or phone calling him- he's often out of the shop during 'business hours', he lives just next door as I've mentioned. I waited around for half an hour, and nothing. I would imagine any business owner knowing they had a customer coming in on a certain day would be ready for them. At the very least if an emergency happened and no one could be on premises, a note would be left or a phone call could be made. All customers: Assume business hours are NOT ACCURATE. Owner can be nearby all he wants or says he will be but it is simply not true. Don't do what I've done several times, hoping that small business owners care about people traveling from out of town- call and make sure you get a HUMAN on the phone and CONFIRM he is actually on the premises IN PERSON. As a matter of fact, don't be surprised if you wind up having a very small class, he may try to cancel on you- if I wasn't already in my car driving to Silverton to our class a year ago, I get the feeling he would have canceled the morning of on us. So... overall... Take the class! It's a very very good class! I'd do it again and even take new friends! But do so KNOWING you WILL be paying an additional 1-4+00dollars for your final product. Mr. Harris DOES stand by his generous lifetime guarantee, and he is very flexible--but if you are from out of town...operate as if the shop is BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. I have no doubt he will make this right, but it's been frustrating
