A neighbor on my floor chainsmokes cigarettes inside their unit without opening their windows, which triggered severe health issues for me, a never-smoker. Property manager refused to work with me towards any accommodations to make my apt liveable

I rented an apartment with Equity in 2022 and could not wait to move out. When I moved in, the entire place was dusty and moldy and clearly not even attempted to be clean. I had to take down the blinds from the windows and vents from the walls and soak them with cleaner to get the literal half inch of dust off of them. I almost cried because I was so distraught because in that moment I could tell that equity was a scam company. A week or so into my lease, the ceiling collapsed in with water gushing through in the hallway right outside of my door. Myself and a neighbor called the office and the person who answered just said "We know already!" in a very rude manner. Nobody showed up to fix the ceiling for at least 6 hours. I was concerned the whole time that the leak would spread and the ceiling in my unit would cave in, but luckily it did not. The oven was smoking for the first month of use and had a burner not working. The cleanliness of the stove was also disgusting. When I went to wipe down the burners, there were pieces of penne pasta and other old food left on the stove. Aren't landlords supposed to make sure the unit is clean in between tenants? I thought that was the whole point of a security deposit. The heat also broke during my lease in December of 2022 when it was around 10 degrees outside. I remember it being so cold that I could see my breath in the apartment. I called the landlord and again they just said "yeah, we already know". This exchange had me so confused. If you "already know" that the heat is broken and tenants are living in dangerously cold temperatures, why would you not inform us and let us know you are trying to fix it? They brought me over a tiny space heater during this time which didn't really help but at least the guy who brought it was friendly. Moving out was such a pain with the security deposit because they gave me a whole list of 100 things to do and clean before I left. I have rented many apartments before this and another one since and am aware that you should clean your apartment before you move out. However, Equity includes hiring a professional carpet cleaner out of the tenants own pocket as part of the move out process or else you won't get your deposit back. Isn't the point of paying rent to go to the landlord to upkeep the properties? I would understand if the landlord came to the unit and saw that my apartment needed deep cleaning and suggested I hire a professional carpet cleaner. However, my carpet was spotless and the landlord had not seen the place to even know the state of the carpet. This is the stupidest policy I have ever seen and making tenants pay this much out of their own pocket and schedule their appointment, etc. is so ridiculous. When I moved out, I did get my deposit back, but I had 30 dollars taken out for "not cleaning the oven". This really offended me because of the disgusting state the apartment was left in when I moved in. I'm willing to bet they withheld the deposit from the last tenant before me and didn't even use that deposit money to clean the place. Instead, they just pocketed it for themselves. Long story short, they're awful and would never rent from them again. The staff in office was all friendly aside from whoever answered the maintenance phone a few times. However, not enough for me to want to deal with their antics again. P.S. Why do they run their business like we don't have internet access now? Their website is so old and outdated and we have to physically pay rent with checks either in person or in the mail. Other landlords have an online pay system / maintenance system which would be easier for everyone.

So I started renting in April of 2023. When we came to look at the home in Brownsville Pennsylvania it looked amazing. Halfway decent basement area, with a second room for the laundry etc in basement. When we came the two times it was bone dry but of course hadn't rained in the days prior. Well my gosh I've had it up to here with the flooding. When it rains there is multiple streams of water coming from multiple spots near the bottom of the basement wall. Now back up to the clogged gutters and nothing draining properly I had alerted the one person we deal with back in May about the gutters being clogged and maybe that being the reason the basement is taking on water. A few days later I got a response of we will have someone look at them that was may. Nobody came to look at the gutters until two weeks ago (August) they cleaned one small six foot section and just threw the stuff all over the sidewalk on the side of the house and then proceeded to tell my fiance that the rest weren't bad and didn't need done and the three hillbillies left. I'm sorry if one section is clogged they all are sure enough fiance got on a ladder they're all awful even the one they supposedly cleaned. So I went back and looked in my texts I said somebody about the gutters and the flooding in the basement five times. This past week when we had awful amount of rain didn't I get a video of the rain just pouring in through streams and sent to the person we deal with, I got a simple we will see what we can do in response. Now the time before that when it flooded I got it's a 100 year old house on hill and buy shelves and totes to keep my stuff dry. I shouldn't have to buy things like that to keep my belongings safe because you refuse to fix anything. I know for a fact Taylor that I deal with does not own the home however whomever does is one awful landlord. I do know it's equity point real estate because that's what is on the lease. Anytime anything needs addressed it takes days to get a response or it's not important enough to get done. We didn't have but two working window screens when we moved in someone picked them up had them almost two months and when I questioned multiple times where the screens were once I got oh we have a water emergency that trumps that. So fresh air isn't important got it. Nevermind the ceiling tiles in the basement being water logged and broken and some non existent. Also there's a huge ant and spider problem that existed since day one here. None of this was ever mentioned to us. I know dam well they knew that basement took on water and we weren't told. Also on top of the flooding there is so much mold it's ridiculous and now the three of us who reside here are having health problems maybe due to the sever mold. When I complained about the flooding at one point I was also told I could break the lease if I wanted. No I don't want to and shouldn't have to move because you refuse to make the repairs the property needs so we can live in it. The steps from the street are crumbling the front retaining wall is falling in, the porch is rotting, the home is in such dis repair that when we had someone come and try to see what they could do to make the home more accessible for my dad whos handicapped, we got a report weeks later stating that the home was quote in such dis repair that they refused to do anything until things were fixed. I am tired of moving due to landlords being slumlords but hey on the bright side the hillbillies that came to half a$$ the gutters said we're getting a metal roof which I highly doubt. There's much more in this home that's more pressing issue then the roof. End of rant I'd love to speak with the person who actually owns this house
