My brother convinced me to take sailing lessons at Edgewood Sailing School a few years back. I thought I knew how to sail fairly well, but I soon found out that my skills were not so great. After taking the beginner, intermediate and advanced classes, I was sailing comfortably, and in full control, in conditions I never thought I'd take any boat out in! The training and the instructors were so good, that I came back after Covid and became a tutor, teaching students on the water. I recently gained my US Sailing, Basic Keelboat Certification, so now I'm an instructor at the school! I wouldn't have pursued that if I didn't enjoy being around these folks, and the students, so much.

I cannot say enough great things about ESS. Both the adult and youth sailing programs are fantastic! I've taken adult classes and private lessons. My daughter has done the sailing camp. The instructors are fantastic!! Very knowledgeable and passionate about sailing and teaching. The younger instructors in the youth program are just as wonderful. I am very impressed by their maturity, professionalism and how well they work with the kids. The entire staff's enthusiasm for sailing is infectious. Their number one goal is to not just create competent sailors but to inspire a lifelong love of the sport.

A few years ago I started out at Level 1 Adult, knowing nothing at all about sailing except that I really wanted to learn. ESS is not just offering basics, but also ways to explore boat skills by volunteering, racing, cruising, and taking classes in navigation. Now sailing is becoming a way of life. There's a real growth path over several seasons at Edgewood Sailing School. And of course you can practice sailing for a lifetime and learn something new every time you go out on the water. It's a great setting at the top of the Narragansett Bay, you'll love the sunsets, too! I feel I should update my review, which I wrote quite some time ago as a student... because now after working my way up the program, I am an instructor at Edgewood Sailing School !
