I have had a fear of the dentist in the past, but not anymore now that I have found my new dental office! The entire staff is very friendly, especially Dave the office dog. Dr. Silva is my usual dentist, but everyone here is great. Couldnt recommend this office more.

This place has dramatically gone down hill since Dr.Barr left. They are changing their billing policies so everyone has to pay for services up front even if you have insurance. They gave me services not covered by my insurance without warning me and more than once while I was in the dentist chair the staff were talking about not using too much of some materials to save money and cut costs. Thats pretty unnerving when someone is drilling in your mouth. I used to tell everyone to go to this dentist office now I feel like I have to warn people to stay away.

I went to Dr. Barr when I moved to Providence many years ago because he was close to home and work, and just stayed because I never had a reason to leave. and everyone was friendly and competent. Over the years I came to appreciate that reliability, and Dr. Barr was always a great professional. I should have written a five-star review a long time ago, not that the office would have needed it.The practice was sold recently to someone called Katherine Burton, who I've never seen. I have seen one of the other Dentists there, who is young and eager and seems knowledgeable. I do find the bedside manner not quite filling Dr. Barr's shoes, although I suppose that's something that comes with time. Other things have changed, too: the front desk staff, who I always liked, and I've had to trundle out to the other office in North Prov a few times because they couldn't reschedule me on South Main. None of which is a deal-killer, and I guess if I walked in the door today I wouldn't think much of it, but, I don't know, it's just the way my trust in the practice has been lowered just a bit that feels uncomfortable, somehow.

After re-reading my previous review, and having had ten years' worth of a few other dentists, I wanted to go back and give Dr Barr the full five stars.   (He said he installed a chair lift but I seriously think he is joking).  I'm now living in South County - like the other end of the earth from Phil Barr's office!!   That, and the yucky stairs will probably keep me with my current SoCo dentist.  HOWEVER, I really miss Dr Barr - both for his hugely delightful "chairside" manner. But, more important, for his excellent skills as a dentist.   Leaving off a star has haunted me :-) for a long time so I just wanted to come back here and correct my error.  He is really probably the best dentist in RI.   (And we're not related, or even one of his friends or GFs!   Lol). BIG PS.  I just read that they actually HAVE installed a chair lift.  I thought he was joking because he is a funny guy.  But all the more reason to go and see him.
