Courtyard by Marriott Charleston Summerville

Being a Marriot award member my husband and I stayed here 2 days before Christmas of 2023 while visiting family. Like another stayer wrote, the front desk staff needs to be more hospitable and needs to smile and be friendlier. They don't seem to be too thrilled to be there. We mentioned we didnt want to be close to the elevator. She booked us next to it. In addition the bathroom and shower had not been cleaned. We shared pictures where there was mold in and around the shower stall. The room also smelled. We shared the pictures with housekeeping and the manager. They did not offer us a different room nor a discount. They failed in their attempt to clean the room and bathroom. We mentioned this to the manager who advised us they had contacted the owner. The manager advised us that they were informed by the owner that there was a known leak behind the elevator which caused the bathroom to mildew. We were shocked to hear this and asked so why would you book this room if you knew this? Rooms: See comments.

The location of the hotel is ok, but the staff is terrible. The front desk attendant was very rude and unfriendly, we had issues with check in, and the rooms were dirty. I found long black hairs in the bathroom and a dirty toilet, and the room was missing the TV remote control and coffee cups to use with the in room coffee maker. There are several other hotels nearby, I would try them first before staying here.

Ive been staying at Marriott hotels for 30 years and a rewards member for that long. Ive stayed here twice and wont be back. My experience both times is that the place is dirty from the moment you walk in. The outside trash is overflowing and the glass doors are filthy. Elevators have not been cleaned ever. And looks like carpets in common areas havent been vacuumed in months. Now for the service. They have a housekeeping policy of cleaning every other day but that doesnt include the day you check-in or Czech out I was told by the front desk. So for a three night stay (4 days) I was not eligible for housekeeping according to their policy. The front desk was kind enough to give me trash bags so l could empty my own trash. I started with a single roll of toilet paper with no extra so had to ask and ask for towels by day three because only got one to start with. So much more to add but thats the basics. This is a franchise property which may be part of the problem. Save yourself some money and stay at Motel 6 because thats what this location is.
