Black Hills Hydro Turf does an amazing job! I have nothing but good things to say about Claire, Ted, and Nolan. They are professional, thoughtful, thorough, and go above and beyond for you! They leveled our yard, hydro seeded it, and put rock in the boulevard and it looks so nice! If you want a company that goes above and beyond, these are your people! I was SO pleased with the whole process. Thank you Black Hills Hydro Turf! Services: Green landscaping, Lawn care

We had hydroseed placed last summer (2022). We knew the soil wasn't great to start with, but were told it would take as long as we watered accordingly. So we did. This is on a sloped hill, so we are guessing the seed slid to the bottom, as at its peak, there was nice thick grass towards the bottom of the hill - though there were still patches with no grass. At the top of the hill, hardly anything took. We called and called. Either didn't get a response or got "we'll come take a look in the next week or so." But no one ever came. Probably called at least 10 times. Winter came and now that spring is here, we are in the same situation. Called again with no response. Waste of our money as we will have to totally redo this area. Haven't been this disappointed in a service before.

Courtney and Joseph, thank you so much for bringing this situation up. It brings to light two very important factors when it comes to growing grass! Watering on a hillside, and the importance of proper soil preparation before planting a lawn (whether it be a hillside or not, proper soil preparation is the key to success when wanting to grow a healthy stand of grass). But first. For readers who need some context. This situation is a hillside behind a home in rapid city about a mile south of a rock quarry... so very ROCKY and heavy clay soil (as you can see from the picture provided). Homeowner was advised that hydroseeding when watered properly will grow, BUT it would NOT be a lawn. It would be thin (as shown in the picture)Homeowner did call, and I did tell them to just keep watering. It was very dry everytime I did come and look at it last year. I looked at it again the last week of April (last week) and the hillside was dry (as you can see in the picture.. lots of cracks in the ground). There was still a lot of hydro mulch still on the hillside (which means the seed did not wash away. There is seed in the hydro mulch slurry) I'm so glad the grass grew where it was watered! And where the mulch and soil was saturated . Hillsides, as we discussed last year are very tricky to water evenly. Watering from the bottom will only get the bottom wet. Even watering from the top, you have to run so much water on it to actually get water to be soaked in at the top of a hill. That is why i suggested soaker hoses and placing them at the top of the hill and letting a slow soak. Leaving the soaker on for long enough so that the water can saturate the hillside. Hillsides shed water. And that is what happened here. That is why you are getting the growth pattern as shown in the picture. The water shed and where it settled, grass did grow. Second, soil preparation! As seen in the photo provided, the soil condition at this particular location is very poor. Because of the soil conditions of where this house is located (Rocky and very high in clay content... there's a rock quarry about a mile north of this house), you would have benefited greatly from importing topsoil. But as discussed last year, it was not in your budget to do so. We did state that minimal vegetation would occur in the hillside due to the poor soil condition, so knowing that it was thick toward the bottom, where sufficient water was able get to the seeds and allow for germination is wonderful. And I'm glad you were successful in that part of the hillside. Thank you again for your feedback. And I'm so sorry you're expectations were not met.
