I just read a post saying that the church of Jesus Christ of later day saints does not baptize handicap people. That is so not true. My husband had M.S. for over 33 yrs. At the time of his baptism, he could speak very little. But,he was totally unable to move arms, legs, and very little movement in his neck. The missionaries we had at the time would not give up on how they were going to get him in the water. They practiced the day before without water. So they put a chair in the water, and several priesthood holders lower him over the front of the font. After the baptism, they asked everyone to leave the room. We laid several blankets down on the floor. The men raised him out of the font. I have to mention he was a tall man at 6ft 1 in 220 lbs dry weight. We ended up laying a very wet man on the blankets. My mother, myself, and I believe my son all helped rolling him around, pulling wet clothes off and more rolling to put his dry clothes on. I looked around the room, and I was amazed by who was in the room helping us. There was this young man I had never met before, but I did see him in the church the week before. I found out later that he was going to school to be a doctor. My husband and I had talked afterward about how strange it was that he had come to our baptism, let alone help dress him. We looked for him the next week at church but never saw him again at our church. This was in March 2009. Now, at the end of July the same year, my mom got very sick. She was transported away to a bigger hospital. We were there for many days. One of my trips down to our van I was walking across the parking lot. And there he was. The man who helped us dress Frank and was a part of our baptism. He was on a dead run to something inside the hospital. He was doing his residency there at that very hospital. I told him quickly that mom was in the hospital and he was going to catch up with me later. My mom passed away a few days later. With all the chaos of mom dying, I lost track of time and never saw the angle again. So you see, the church does Baptize handicap people. If they are disabled before the age of 8, it is believed that they have not sinned. But after that time, they need to be baptized.
