To preface, neighbors, community, and office staff are amazing. I truly do love this community, but SCION has raised rent to astronomical prices. Almost the entire community is being forced to move out. Tennessee is still using the federal minimum wage....$7.25 an hour....there is simply no feasible way a full-time student can afford to live here anymore, even making double or triple the minimum wage. Our rent went from $825 to $1275 for next year NOT including utilities (which run around $100 PER PERSON in a 4x4.5) I am not sure who decided that a $450 jump was acceptable, but I can tell you that they do not care about their previous tenants at all. Other complexes at least gave their current tenants very discounted prices or allowed them to pay what they have been paying, but we did not get that option at all. They made it seem like we were getting a discount, but they had so little success that they are giving everyone the same "discount". Not only that, but they told us they just based it off of the surrounding market.....the competing complexes are either a 2-minute walk from campus, they ALL have a bus, are gated, and have a MUCH NICER gym than our 10x10 gym (which can fit two, max three people at a time). Let me add that we are also the SECOND most expensive Redpoint complex out of 17 by just $9....and we have half of the amenities every single other complex has. The first place of most expensive has a RESORT style pool with hot tubs, day beds, and an actual gym....none of the others start at more than $800 and most are between $500 and $700 starting price.....what is so special about Knoxville????
