Great experience with Roto Rooter. I had an issue with my water heater and Rick was quick to get someone out to my home. The water heater installation was quick and they waited around a little while to make sure everything was working perfectly for me. I would definitely recommend Roto Rooter for anyone looking for a plumber in Knoxville or the surrounding area.

The call was to replace 4 cartridges, 2 for a tub and 2 for a shower. The initial estimate was for $500+, plus parts. I am thinking ok with minor disappointment at this stage. But then I knew I was being conned when the discussion quickly devolved that parts could be as much as $200 per cartridge. And... they may have to cut into the wall to get to the piping. It became obvious to me that the technician was clueless (or thought I was clueless) and I was going to pay for his on the job training. The technician did not even pull a shower knob to see what they were getting into before the mega parts and wall reconstruction discussion. Wow. BTW - just need a Philips screw driver to pull a knob. Well - they charged me $65 dollars for doing nothing except trying to convince me that this was a major issue. Hence, I am writing this review. Again, given that they did not even pull a knob (no investigation of the issue), I could have gotten such an estimate over the phone. Yes - I have two bathrooms, and two leaks. So, .... Bought $40 dollars worth of plumbing tools from Amazon (to remove the cartridges and the seats), and $60 worth of replacement parts from Locke. All four cartridges and seats took 45 minutes to repair. Silly me, had to do one seat twice as I threaded the plumbing tape the wrong way. This was a very disappointing experience. I think Roto-Rooter should think twice before attempting to take advantage of a perceived inexperienced client.

The technician arrived and quickly got to work, and the main line clog was taken care of in a matter of minutes. I really appreciate the quality, speed, and cordiality of the technician.

Charged us for $1,000 for an issue that wasnt adequately addressed or fixed. Was told they charge $800 just for the truck to show up. No transparency in pricing. When we told them they didnt fix the issue, the manager, Rick, told us he would only charge us an additional $800 truck fee to come out and fix it right the second time.

Service guy was nice but they wanted to charge me over $500 just to have french drains in my yard cleaned/cleared out. Basically all I needed was pressure washer hose stuck down the line. On the phone they said nothing of the price over the phone other than the 65 service fee. I still had to pay the service fee even though they did nothing.

Andrew, thank you for taking the time to leave us this detailed feedback. After discussing with our team, we do find this situation and your experience unfortunate. In no way would we at Roto-Rooter ever try to take advantage of any of our customers. Doing that would surely not make for good business practices and surely not keep our doors open to serve the public. Roto-Rooter has a long history within the plumbing industry and all of our technicians are rigorously trained and continuously educated on all plumbing practices. To call our technician clueless is unfair and libelous in a public forum such as Google reviews. You may not realize this, but small businesses (such as our Roto-Rooter franchise) rely on reviews within Google to help us reach more customers who have plumbing needs in a very competitive online search. Since this industry is a skilled trade, not everyone will have the capabilities to perform such DIY without damaging their plumbing system (which is vital to a homes ecosystem) or injury to themselves - whether they realize it or not. Over the phone, we explained that there will be a $65 service charge to come to out and diagnose the problem that you are having. Many times, customers may think the issue is simple or not very serious, but without diagnosing the root cause, the issue could persist in the future - which also may lead to a negative review stating that they we performed "didn't work". With that being said, our technician took the time to diagnose the problem and informed you (before any money was exchanged) that before we went in deeper to diagnose the problem and pull the cartridge that they "could" cost "up to" $200. We wanted to give you the worst case scenario just in case, however, the technician did mention that they might only be about $60 a cartridge too. In this case, we wanted to give you every scenario and if there was a leak in the pipe or the valve, the only way to fix that issue would be to cut the wall to fix a valve IF THAT WAS THE CASE. None of this work took place as you didn't agree with the estimate of the technician, which is fine. However, we would rather our customers know what might be going one before just diving into repairing anything. Yes there was a $65 service charge to come and diagnose the issue and give you an estimate of cost before starting any work. With gas being over $3 per gallon and paying good, educated plumbing technicians along with insurances and taxes, it is unfeasible for our vans to travel multiple miles a day to give Free estimates to every customer just for them to turn around and deny the work and then try to fix it themselves. I am sorry you felt you had a negative experience. We handled everything as a Roto-Rooter Plumbing franchise has done for over 100 years and we cannot offer unpaid consultations to every DIYer in our area. We would like to make this situation right somehow with you, as we value all of our customers, so please reach out to our offices at 865.291.1028 as our attempts to contact you have been ignored. You can feel free to email us: [email protected] you Again
