Varsity Tutors - Dallas

I had a slight issue that occurred on the billing side of things but one thing that I can say is that Varsity Tutoring staff worked hard to take care of the issue to ensure 100% satisfaction. Thank you so much Elise and your team for resolving my issue.

I take German lessons with my Dad through Varsity Tutors. Once a week, we're able to meet with a tutor matched by Varsity Tutors who is a professional in her field. The online classroom tool that Varsity Tutors has is very useful in this, and the ability to rewatch sessions is a huge bonus. Overall, really good service for those wanting to take on learning a new skill.

Very disappointing. Purchased credits in November and they expired those in March. Tried calling them multiple times but they refuse to call back. The chat says they cannot help and a "account manager" can help, but no one calls back. They were better in 2021 about quick responses. Since then their service, tutors and responses have been pathetic. Stay away

We have had a great experience so far Our tutor Patricia goes above and beyond to make math fun. She spent a lot of time assessing what my daughter needs and tries to come up with activities and games each week to make the lessons interactive and enjoyable. We get detailed feedback after each session. It is clear that she spends a lot of time preparing for our weekly session.

I would not recommend Varsity Tutors to anyone, unless that person is intending to manage the tutor. Both tutors that I had would charge my hours for more than the time spent and scheduled (so for a 30 minute session, I would be charged 1 hour). The notes left by the tutor were not accurate, saying that things were covered during the session that I know weren't. I bought multiple books to be read along with the tutor only for the tutor to say "oh no, I don't have that one". So instead of spending the session reading or tutoring, it would be spent waiting for us to figure out a book we both have. Having an agreed upon book just didn't seem to work. The first tutor we had would arrive late or not at all for every single session. The worst part is that VT doesn't give any options to contact them but by phone. It's pushy sales people trying to guilt you into continuing the service because "it's what's best for the child". What's best for the child is actual tutoring sessions that help him grow, with consistency and engagement. I wasted a lot of money that I will now be putting into a local business with specialists I expect to have a lot more professionalism than I experienced with VT. What makes me the most angry - mostly at myself - is allowing them to convince me to re-up the hours and try with a second tutor. The second tutor was great for a little while, but then it became clear that the tutoring sessions were lowest priority. I think the tutor was overworked b/c she's a full-time teacher. I don't knock the tutors - it's the company. If we're paying you to find and manage tutors, why aren't you doing that? I could have done this all with a tutor myself without this "amazing app" that really doesn't do a whole lot.
