**UPDATE 3/18/24**: We again worked with AKIF CPA for our 2023 returns. They took care of our cross border issues with ease, ensuring all technicalities between the IRS and Canada Revenue were covered. Outstanding, professional service is truly their mission. Thanks to Mohammad, Kamni and Shemane for their diligence and timely work. ==================================================== We contacted AKIF CPA's office in Houston following a recent move to Texas. We found their information online and called their offices to see if they could assist us with cross border tax questions as Canadian expats living in the US. Within a couple of hours we received a call directly from Mohammad Akif to have a preliminary discussion regarding our situation and questions. We were particularly looking for tax advice on withdrawals of retirement funds from Canada and its effect on tax filing on both sides of the border. We met with Mohammad on several occasions both via phone and video meetings (pandemic driven) to discuss our situation. Mohammad listened, answered our questions and provided guidance to ensure we understood how best to proceed with withdrawals from Canada and tax preparation. When tax filing came around, due to the relative simplicity of our current tax situation, he suggested we continue with our regular filing using Turbo Tax software rather than have his firm prepare our returns at this time. He offered to review both our Canadian and US returns to ensure correctness prior to filing without charge. With Mohmmad's guidance we were able to complete our tax filings, confident they were correct. His professionalism and genuine desire to assist us during our early stages of retirement, with the complexity of cross border taxes, were outstanding and very much appreciated.
