I went to Dr. Larry Kjeldgaard to discuss back pain. I had X-rays sent over and an MRI on disc for review. I had one other opinion before seeing Dr. Kjeldegaard. Dr. Kjeldegaard wanted to do surgery immediately and fuse my back front and back. A massive 360 procedure. I was in so much pain that I jumped at the thought and opportunity to be in less pain. I was told that surgery could be done in 2 weeks. I got another professional opinion and told absolutely do not do surgery. So that was 2 no's and one yes. I canceled my procedure and got one more opinion from UTSW, a highly reputable hospital and was also told no. 3 no's and only one yes from Kjeldegaard. I ended up seeing a different pain specialist who was able to correctly diagnose and eliminate pain with an in office procedure. When I canceled my surgery with Dr. Kjeldegaard, I went to return the back brace and was told they can't take it back even though it was off their shelf in their storage closed in plastic unopened and brand new/unused in the same exact condition they gave it to me. I did not even try it on. They billed insurance almost $1500 and also billed me almost $1,000 after I attempted to return it. I refused to pay since I did not have the surgery and I had no use for the brace. Not only that, it would have been severe malpractice had I gone through with the surgery that I did not need. I had the choice to pay for a completely unnecessary back brace from Trinity Ortho or let it ding my credit score by refusing to pay. Trinity Orthopedics gave me the back brace at my second appointment. My first appt. we discussed my pain and the second appt. I brought all the supporting MRI and X-rays for the Dr's review and was told they would work on getting surgery scheduled ASAP and I was given the back brace before leaving. I am thankful others advocated on my behalf and suggested I go for another opinion. 3 no's to 1 yes on surgery by Orthopedic spine specialists. No way was I going to allow Kjeldegaard do surgery. He was so quick to rush me into a costly surgery that would fuse my spine front and back on two levels that I did not require and it would not fix my pain or real issue. Rather cause a severe issue. Very deceptive practices!!! What happened to the oath...DO NO HARM? Always get multiple opinions when doing surgery. Especially one this important. Your spine affects nearly all your body moments.
