image Whoever decided that blocking off 90% of the exits in the 2 main highways going through Sherman is a complete imbecile. This has been way too long now. It feels there may be some shady business for how long this is taking. Lobbying is the bane of democracy.

image I emailed them a question asking about non-profit event venues in the area. Several days later I got the following response:
"The Sherman Chamber does not host any events outside of school and college venues so I am not certain wo would be available to provide a space as you mention. You may try the tourism offices in Sherman and Denison."
I then sent them the following email which received no response:
"Thank you for your response. I'm afraid you misunderstood my question. I am not looking for the chamber of commerce to host my event. As I'm sure you are aware, the purpose of a chamber of commerce is to know and serve as the voice of all of the venues of commerce in their local area. With that purpose in mind, I was hoping you would be able to direct me to Sherman business or non-business venues such as theaters, venue buildings, fraternities, the VFW and similar organizations, churches, official city locations or any other location within the city that might normally host events in the area. The chamber of commerce is supposed to be in-the-know about where such things take place. So I'll rephrase my question: What businesses and venues are in the area that regularly host events?"
The people they have working at this chamber of commerce apparently do not understand the purpose of a chamber of commerce or how to do their job. It was nice of the employee to respond and suggest trying the tourism offices, however the tourism offices cover things like facilities rental of the super-expensive Kidd-Key Auditorium, parades, and city-sponsored festivals and concerts which is not what I was looking for.
I'm giving this chamber of commerce 2 stars for at least responding to my first email, but no more than that for trying to pass their job off to another bureau that does not cover the thing I was asking about and then failing to respond to my second email.
I don't want to be mean, but I pay taxes to help support these sorts of city organizations. If the organizations aren't helping me or others, what is their purpose? I'm half tempted to join the city council or run for mayor to put a stop to ineptitude such as what I encountered here.
