Sean helped us frame and dry in a second story addition after another builder botched the job and quit. Sean's team worked quickly, within budget, and were professional. Overall a good experience.

It took Sean and Kelley 2 months to give us a bathroom estimate and over a month to give a kitchen estimate. They knew our bathroom budget from the beginning and said it was doable. They knew our kitchen budget early on. For the kitchen, they connected us with someone who gave us a 31k cabinet estimate, not including labor. We don't have a huge kitchen and that number took up a huge portion of our budget. They said they'd be willing to install cabinets we purchased elsewhere (we have new cabinets for $9k). On the phone when we went through what our kitchen estimate would be verbally, they said $75k including the $31k cabinets and the appliances we were purchasing. We knew we had to cut some things out (including the expensive cabinets), but figured we could work to reach our number. We had a tile person over here and plumbers too. The plumbers had looked at both the bathroom and kitchen for an estimate. When we finally received the final numbers, they were at least double the cost of our mutually known and understood budget. They were much higher than the estimates they gave, until then. They also did not include things like appliances, cabinetry or tile. Many of the line items were heavily inflated, including demo, carpentry, bathroom plumbing. When I asked about plumbing, Sean said the plumbers found a problem with our hot water heater pipe, so we have some problems. "Oh that's interesting," I said. "They were here on Wednesday and we found the leak flooding our basement on Sunday. They're plumbers and they didn't say anything? We already called County and they replaced the pipe for $150." When we sent Sean and Kelley items we'd want to take out of our estimate (things we didn't need to do) and things we mutually discussed were higher than need be, they emailed us the next day to say they wouldn't take on our project. This is after 2 months of discussions, a baby on the way (an already tight timeline) and with no option to do one project or the other. They said they didn't want to compromise their quality of work. The way I see it, there's some schystery stuff going on. We spoke with some different contractors in the area too who had some really negative stories. Perhaps, they didn't want to deal with their heavily inflated estimates. Perhaps, they only want to take on projects without budget. Or maybe, in the 12 hours between when we reviewed the estimate together and they sent us their breaking up email, they found another client. All that I know is that they were duplicitous in their practice (seems to be a trend) and left us hanging. If you have a budget, any budget at all, don't go with Gyllenborg. If you want to work with someone trustworthy, don't go with Gyllenborg.

We contacted Sean and Kelley in November, prior to moving to Vermont to begin working towards an estimate for our master bath and kitchen renovation. Were on a tight timeline because we have a baby on the way. The process was pretty seamless and all seemed to be going well. When we received our estimates (the bathroom one came two months later), they were higher than we imagined and what we had discussed as a team so naturally, we wanted to explore what we might back off of to bring the cost down. My wife and I had separately realized that we may only be able to do one or the other. Rather than work with us through how to get one project done if not both, they emailed us to decline our projects outright citing our budget constraints and that their schedule had somehow become too busy to accommodate us in the 24 hours since getting our estimates and hearing our reaction to them. Maybe its just not enough money for them to do a $60K bathroom and nothing else? Being on a tight timeline and with a baby coming and having agreed that we even start demo next week, we basically feel weve been knowingly hung out to dry. Now we have to find someone to do all of this stuff and have the unchanged timeline. Shocked. Duped. Confused and have no idea how they let us get so far down this road only to refuse the work that we can afford.
