We had to bring our dog in to stay overnight because she had pancreatitis. The people at the front desk were so sweet and the doctor genuinely cared about our dog. I have a lot of respect for the jobs they have taken on. I can not imagine how hard of a job these people have. I admire them and I am so grateful for the care they took with our little girl. Overwhelmed with gratitude.

This place killed my cat. Took him here over a week ago for tan diarrhea and vomiting. Gave him antibiotics metronizidale and albon.. all that did was give him more diarrhea. Now he's extremely weak and dehydrated. White gums and his gums are dry.

Usually I can have decent sympathy when it comes to people not being able to do anything about animals. Im a young new pet owner, I brought my baby rat in because hes having a hard time breathing. I called in advance to see if they could help him, which they claimed they could. The woman I had to treat him (cant remember her name) was so uncomfortably giddy/happy(?) despite my rat literally barely breathing, gasping for air and not being able to be helped. She didnt tell me much unless I asked specific questions. Shed just smile and tell me after me paying over $300 that they couldnt do anything and Id have to take him to my Primary Vet. Im extremely upset I wasted my time there if nothing could be done. Especially when its something so serious like the lack of oxygen in my baby rats body. They shouldve told me at the beginning so I didnt waste my money. I went to Timberlakes Animal Hospital (HIGHLY RECOMMEND) and they gave me better pricing and Antibiotics that will ACTUALLY help him. They recommended I not even use the antibiotics I paid for from this place since they wouldnt really benefit him. Im just extremely disappointed and I dont want anyone there to help me or them apologize. I just want other people to know that this place shouldnt even be your last resort, Roanoke is much better. (Had a friend go there for their rats, so I know its much better. I shouldve went there first.) The women at the front desk though were extremely nice. I appreciate their patience and them.

Excellent care from the moment I spoke with them on the phone. Very friendly and compassionate staff. Quick assessment and right to care, keeping me informed all along the way. First class service! Thanks for taking such good care of my baby!

If you have to see Dr. Serocki, I would highly recommend making the drive to Roanoke. This doctor provides no triage, she wants no back story or anything suggestive at all. Shell do whatever she can to try to prove you wrong, a price the poor animal pays for the chip on her shoulder. She has a major complex and lacks empathy entirely. 2 days later and Im still sitting here perplexed by her condescending attitude and disregard for my dog. If she is miserable in her career, maybe she should consider a new line of work. I wish I could give her 0 stars. Call ahead and if she is on, make the drive to Roanoke. Over $400 just to have my dog still sitting here sick because she doesnt really care. High dollar prices for discounted services. Its disgusting. The front desk staff is awesome though! They genuinely care and are very nice and respectful, sad for them that they have to be subjected to subpar conduct from their superior.

Hi Kam, we're sorry to hear about your experience and apologize that we did not meet your expectations. We always strive to provide the best care for our furry friends, and Patches' case is no exception. I would like to take a moment to explain how and why we fell short of your expectations, in hopes that if you ever do find yourself in need of emergency care again, you may possibly reconsider. If you will recall, the doctor on duty was honest with you and spoke about the limitations of exotic care in our emergency facility. However, you both were faced with no alternative care options, so she offered you the best emergency care available for Patches at that time. **Side note** I have personally spoken with the practice manager of the Avian & Exotic Pet Clinic of Roanoke and they are no longer offering emergency hours; if that information has changed we are unaware. We agree that when they were an option, we wholeheartedly recommended for owners to make the drive to see them for their exotics family members. We even had their number posted to our phone logs for team members to give out religiously.** The unfortunate truth is that we are all hurting from the lack of exotic medicine specialists during emergency operating hours, and sometimes the best we can offer is to stabilize a patient with the medicine and tools we have available until a better suited facility with an exotics care team can handle the long term care. Actually, a majority of patients (not just exotics) that we stabilize must continue to their primary care veterinarian for continued treatment; we are a partner to day-time veterinarians, not their replacement. We function similar to a human emergency facility where we triage and stabilize then treat if possible. If the scope of treatment is outside of the human ER's ability, then you would be transferred to a different hospital department for continued care. Some ailments, like lacerations or ear infections, do not require that type of continued treatment and are able to be treated and then recover at home, but many of the cases (including respiratory distress) that are seen in an emergency room require a more extensive treatment plan. The charges for your visit included the doctor's exam, overnight hospitalization, continuous vital monitoring by licensed professionals, oxygen therapy, and antibiotics. Because of that care, Patches was not only able to survive the night, but he was breathing more comfortably (enough so that he ate on his own -yay!). I am happy to hear that Patches was able to receive continued and more specialized care after leaving us. I sincerely hope that this information can restore some of your faith in us. Please reach out to our practice manager at [email protected] if you wish to discuss your concerns further.
