I have been a long time client at this school and have always enjoyed my experiences with the students there. I have never minded the extra time or changes as I understand that they are learning. Unfortunately now that they have gone from a Gene Juarez Academy to Paul Mitchell The School I do not for see myself returning. My first and major complaint is with the instructors. I am not very attached to my hair and like to experiment with it. As I rarely style it and like it to be as low maintenance as possible. My big two things that I always communicate when getting my haircut are: First and foremost, I don't like a straight cut. I like having choppy textured hair that is piecey. Second, I have very thick hair that it heavy and causes my hair to lay flat against my head so I want it thinned out a lot. I left with exactly the opposite, not due to the student who was very kind, professional and understanding, but due to an instructor that said that that would "ruin the haircut and it will look textured when I style it" and without more layers it will be "easier to do more fun things with". Since I had already been there for 1.5 hours and no longer wanted to be there I just said it was fine and left. Second, with the school changing over the interior setup has changed some, in my opinion for the worse. Previously the layout made you feel as though you were in a smaller salon, though still a school. Now there are smaller stations and smaller mirrors. Many times I made awkward contact with those getting their haircut next across from me and I felt crowded. I definitely felt like I was in a haircut warehouse vs a salon. The scheduling, check in, and out process also leaves something to be desired. I had expected to get either and email or text confirmation when I scheduled online and got neither which was concerning. When I walked in there was a large front desk with no one at it and an iPad to self check in on. After putting in my number to check in there was a pop-up saying I had not signed a waiver. There was no way to do it there and I again had never received a text or email confirmation with it. An instructor came up and just told me to ignore it and take a seat, apparently they don't care about waivers. Upon finishing I was checked out at my seat by an instructor with an iPad who asked me if I wanted to schedule again and then was sent a text with a link to pay online. This is absolutely not what I have come to expect from any kind of professional office and salon and was an unpleasant change, and this is coming from someone in their 20s, not 60s. All in all I felt like my experience was not important and like the instructors did not care about what I wanted. Again the student I had was very kind but I cannot help but feel like the environment was not very professional or a good salon experience.
