        I used to be a huge fan of Cascadia Pizza, especially back in the truck-only days. However, I haven't patronized them since they added a MANDATORY service fee to compensate their front end staff. Look, tipping is already out of control in the US. But businesses that skirt tipping laws for management by adding MANDATORY service fees really have pushed the bounds of the envelope. If you want to compensate your front end staff, then PAY THEM MORE and adjust your prices. And then we, the public can focus on the quality of the food received and decide whether and how much we want to tip. Frankly, I am in line with a European approach where tipping is rare and for extraordinary service. An employer should be paying employees to take orders, make the order, and box the order. I really enjoyed Cascadia's original pizzas, but mandatory fees are a deterrent for me and I won't patronize businesses that impose them...no matter how good the food is.

      Hi Tracy, we are so sorry to hear about your frustration with the service fee to be honest we are too. We have a 3.5% service charge added to each guest check to help compensate our front-end staff who are unable to accept tips due to recent changes in the federal law. For example, one of the two employees who served you yesterday would be unable to accept tips due to this rule change, even though most people would assume that part of the amount left as a tip would be distributed to both. Unfortunately, it's not as simple as just "raising prices" to make up for additional compensation needed to pay these front end staff who are classified as managers, especially when this rule changed with little notice to small businesses and employees who rely on tips and tip pools as a major part of their compensation. We value the feedback, but the service charge is a reality of the current policies in place.
