State childcare licensing does require a separate room for each age group, so it is true that infants and toddlers are in separate rooms. Those rooms are smaller, but we also limit the number of children in them to below the maximum group size for those ages. Each of those rooms have a lead teacher in them at all times with a half door to the main area so they can easily communicate with the rest of the staff or parents. Since this was 3 years ago, I can't provide any insight as to what happened with the food, but not feeding a child in our care is not a typical practice, is not acceptable to me as the owner, and is appalling to my staff. Our staff keep routine notes for each toddler visit and a copy is offered to the parents after every visit to document food, diapering and activities for the day. We observe scheduled meal, snack and diaper checks throughout the day and on demand as needed to avoid just this situation. Assuming there are no other circumstances regarding this visit, we all wholeheartedly apologize for the food provided not being served. If it were more recent, I'd be able to look into the records or internal video record to see if other food had been provided from out kitchen or snack supply. But of course, I can't do that now. I do hope that you contacted our director at the time for additional information, but it doesn't sound like it. I'll never claim to be perfect, but can't be rightly described as not caring or making an effort. Your description of your experience falls well below the standard of care we provide in all of our areas. I do wish we had the opportunity to discuss it in person at the time and would recommend all parents looking for care to come in for a tour or take advantage of our open concept to see what is going on at any time. Actually, I'd recommend doing that at any childcare facility your child is in, but do it outside of the normal drop-off and pick-up times.
