Congratulations to Cornell Atwater! I am so proud of her! She was awarded this prestigious award on Tuesday, May 10, 2016. "The Issaquah Schools Foundation awards its Golden Apple Award each year to an individual in our community who greatly and directly influences the lives of Issaquah School District students. This can include financial support, volunteerism, or support through business efforts. This year, we are proud to present this award to an individual who supports our students through a multitude of ways. We are so very honored to award communitarian and business owner Cornell Atwater with our 2016 Golden Apple! As the owner and director of the only Washington branch of LearningRx, Cornell's mission is to help children and adults strengthen the brain and build the mental skills to make learning easier, faster and more efficient. She is well known and regarded for her work and management of LearningRx. Perhaps more importantly, is the service for which we recognize Cornell today. Beginning when her children were very young, Cornell served on the Children's Garden Board and with the Girl Scout Board of Directors. She served on the committees at her children's schools, fundraise for education, and continues to serve on three local Chamber of Commerces. Cornell is a current member of the Rotary Club of Issaquah - helping in many capacities, with a focus on working with Issaquah High School students in overseeing community service projects. She has been a member of the Issaquah Chamber of Commerce for many years, most recently serving as chairperson for the Education Committee. It is in this specific capacity we would like to highlight Cornell Atwater direct service to our students. On the Chamber Education Committee, Cornell led the efforts for the past four years for the Great Careers Conference - a collaboration between the Issaquah School District, the Issaquah Schools Foundation, the Issaquah business community, and our local technical colleges. Through these efforts, students participated in a one-day conference each year, geared to help those who may have an interest in an alternative path to a 4-year college degree. Students have met with and listened to speakers from throughout the Seattle area who have pursued and succeeded in careers ranging from apprenticeship trades to auto mechanics, florists to cosmetology, culinary arts, game design, and everything in between. Her leadership has provided hundreds of students with a connection and a reason to stay engaged in high school. She is making a difference in the lives of students and also in the future of our workforce. Cornell, the Issaquah School Foundation is proud to present this award for your leadership and mentoring, your strategic vision for our community, your financial support to education and the community, and for your "boots on the ground" efforts. Our community and the students and families within it, are better off because of all you do and give! Thank you!"

There are not enough superlative words in the English language to convey what the dedicated staff of LearningRx Issaquah means to me. How do you put into words a tutor/teacher/friend who took me from not being able to say or sound “w” to being able to write, talk, process a, and work again. After a devastating car wreck took my ability to do any of those things at all or do them well enough to get along with other people in the world not interested in your limitations, the staff stood tall and fought alongside of me to give me my life back. It has taken just shy of 18 months from my “graduation day” to put this into writing without sobbing uncontrollably. Yeah, they are THAT good! Great. Compassionate. Honest. Encouraging. Accessible. Gentle. Do not even come close to what my heart feels. So, let’s just say, my heart stands in gratitude each and every day. A Traumatic brain injury as an adult? No worry! Put yourself in their hands and see your future emerge bright and shiny again. MBB Seattle WA
