BK ACADEMY (aka. BKPlay)

We sent our son, Ace, to BK and we could not have been happier. Meera is in this industry for the children and it shows in her passion and care in her everyday teachings. We are are so very grateful to have gone to BK and would highly recommend to others.

As other gifted children, we have our own story. Since our son was 2 years old, we struggled with his behaviors, we knew he's smart but never expected it's because he's gifted. Our son always has his own ideas and he was hard to convince, didn't listen and follow the directions, which made us exhausted everyday. We're lucky that his previous teacher was very patient with him and loved him, she suggested us to meet a psychologist. From the psychologist, we learned that our son was not ADHD but gifted with a high IQ. Then we found BK Academy and Ms Meera. We joined BK Academy in Sep 2022, when our son's 5. BK Academy is a small school, we had little concern at the beginning because it's not like a school outside. But afterwards we found that BK Academy is so good, and Ms Meera is so good at educating kids, on both academy and behaviors. Our son gets a great education, learns reading and math fits his level. He started reading and writing some simple words by himself, and he showed impressive work on math. We love the education style that challenges kids step by step to let them learn with passion. Most importantly, his behavior is better and better, just after 3 months in BK academy. He doesn't push or punch, uses words first; he follows the schedules and rules, knows rules are something that could not be negotiated; he learns to discuss with his friends instead of forcing others to follow his idea. Ms Meera's impressive on working with kids, she never complains but always gives helpful suggestions to us. I need to say Ms Meera solved a huge problem for us that we didn't know how to handle. I'm so happy and lucky to find BK Academy, I should find Ms Meera earlier to help our gifted child.

Ms. Meera is an extraordinary teacher and has done so much for both of our kids. Our son went to BK for a few years and grew tremendously both socially and academically. My daughter also thrived and gained so much confidence learning from others and finding her own drive. Dr. Shin understands gifted children and their psychology very well. She employed clever techniques to pair children with complimentary skill-sets to help each-other group during group exercises. She encouraged open and creative expression through unstructured formats and play. She customized the curriculum for each child paying close attention to areas of advancement and development. Our kids were always challenged but also had tremendous confidence and drive. We're grateful for the foundation Ms. Meera gave both of our children and fully believe their educational career would not be as bright were it not for these critical early years at BK.

We've had both of our kids in BK Academy, and they've grown so much the past couple of years. Meera's cultivated an environment of psychological safety, where gifted kids can be themselves and uniqueness is celebrated. Academically, she's met children at their appropriate level and supported their continued growth. In a non-Covid school year, there's been extracurricular actives (e.g. martial arts, chess, coding, science) that allows kids to expand their interests. BK has also emphasized social emotional learning. There's plenty of time for unstructured play, allowing kids to have teamwork, work though conflict, and negotiate. Though these interactions, our kids have had the opportunity to build on empathy, decision-making, and social/self awareness. Being a small school, we've gotten to know all of the families at BK, and this community is one of the highlights of attending. All of the families are supportive and have faced similar joys and challenges of raising gifted children. We've learned so much and have made life-long friendships through our time at BK -- we're so grateful to have been a part of this community.

We call Ms. Meera the gift child whisperer. She just gets gifts children! We feel so lucky to have found BK. Our daughter attended several schools before BK and BK is by far the best. Everything is done very deliberately- from the low stim environment to the massive amount of free play worked into the day...even yoga in the mornings!! We love BK!
