    The staff and hygienists are really nice, but this place is strange. Needless to say I'm not a huge fan of Dr. Hawthorne. My prior dentist (where I lived before) used to come spend at least 10-15 minutes with me after even a basic cleaning appointment to review treatment plans for more complicated procedures he was recommending. I had a previous tooth extraction that needed a complex implant or bridge procedure done. I signed up for a deep cleaning with West Vancouver dental and they took a 360 3D X-ray to determine how to proceed with the extracted tooth. Dr. Hawthorne recommended a fairly complex procedure with an implant and sinus lift, so I was expecting he'd come chat with me about it after my deep cleaning appointment especially since they took a 360 degree X-ray specifically for this extracted tooth. He didn't call me back for several days despite raising the concern over email more than once to his staff. Finally, after I voiced my grievance a couple of times, I was bestowed with a brief call with him and he sounded abrupt, impatient and had no explanation for why I wasn't called back right after the x-ray was taken or why he didn't have 2 minutes to visit with me after my two deep cleaning appointments. Later, I was referred out to a different dentist for my implant. I subsequently found out that my policy has a missing tooth clause exception, so I decided to get a bridge instead (because they are cheaper). Requested to chat with the doctor about getting a bridge versus implant and the pros vs. cons of each. Again he sounded impatient and not very personable. The line got cut off twice because I was in a bad signal area. Tried calling back but nobody answered and I never heard back. Two days later I called to reschedule my routine cleaning appointment and they told me they're letting me go as a client because the doctor "does not feel very comfortable performing this procedure." They also told me to go ahead and switch dental offices permanently. No explanation provided for why during two weeks of trying to get estimates and requesting toset up a call with Dr. Hawthorne, they couldn't have just said "hey we saw your X-ray, we can't perform this procedure." They've had my X-rays for like over 2 months now, there's no reason the dentist didn't know whether he was capable of performing what appears to be a routine bridge. Instead they had to come up with this dimwitted excuse and insult my intelligence. I think they just didn't want a client who was expecting someone a little more personable to discuss their treatment plan with. What a bizarre experience, never gotten fired from a dentist before for asking questions regarding a fairly complex treatment procedure. On the positive side, I had a fairly good laugh after the call. Good story to share about how my dentist fired me for actually asking for a little face time with him. So far this is the weirdest experience I've had in Vancouver since we moved here.
