Great little scenic walk. It is dog friendly but I wouldn't let your dog swim in certain areas of the river as it had rapids and rocks. I let my Chesapeake swim by the bridge and she did great with it Dog-friendliness: Dog friendly but be careful with swimming in the river

We really enjoyed the paved walking path along the river. We started from the Ochsner Zoo parking lot. There is a pavilion there with restrooms. The path, although not marked, is just down a steep incline, at the end of the parking lot, and it took us straight to the river walking path. There is a small post marked with a sign for river path and another that points back up toward the zoo. For being in the city, this path is just lovely and it took us along the meandering river with loads of benches. We did have to walk through a residential area for about a block on 2nd Ave until we got to Ridge St that led us back to the path along the river. We walked up to Walnut St, where there is a bronze bird statue, which was about 1.5 miles. It was interesting to note how many entryway points there are for the path and all with good parking lots. This is a city gem. Glad we did this part since it stayed right along the river. We stopped at the Visitor Center, in West Baraboo, where we got a nice map of the river walk path.
