The Hartford

They won't insure my husband because he is borderline diabetic...seriously? Borderline is deal-breaker?

I have worked for my employer for 10 years and they use The Hartford for any and all disability or leave of absence services. Out of the 5 times I've have to use this company for a service like maternity leave or short term disability, they've only been able to help me 2/5 times - and that was only because I was having a baby each time. Any terms of short term disability or care for a loved one such as FMLA, they have fallen short each time! User beware!!!

Waiting. Waiting. Waiting. Yesterday I called, waited, and finally requested the call back option - you know the one, where they promise you won't lose your place in line. So I got a a call back and held for over 30 minutes before I had to hang up. Now I'm on hold again. Clearly they don't give a ---- what kind of customer service they offer.

l can not manipulate through the website so l called for help as the most local office is over 100 miles away from me; l was told to look elsewhere for insurance as they would not be able to help if l wasnt on line

If anyone works for a company that uses The Hartford as an insurance provider for any type of disability coverage, please start an emergency fund for yourself now with your own money. I had to go through The Hartford for Short Term Disability to cover my 12-week maternity leave, and the process was the worst experience of my life. I spent 10 weeks of my leave scrambling to provide dozens of documents to The Hartford under the threat of them denying my claim, even after I provided them with my child's birth certificate and had my doctor's office fax FMLA paperwork. The hassle and intimidation was nowhere near worth the 12 weeks of pay and if I'd known then what I know now, I would have taken my leave unpaid and lived off savings instead. This company will without a doubt cause enough stress to give someone a stroke.
