I was delivered by Dr Karen Gotwalt in March 1994. I am writing this almost 26 years later, not because I remember the experience, but because of its effects. I was born in abnormal fetal position, with my right arm above my head. Most medical practitioners would perform a C-section in this case. Unfortunately, Dr Gotwalt refused, which resulted in 24-hour labor. I was born with erbs palsy (a paralyzed arm). While I regained movement after birth, the defect has haunted me my entire life. I cannot straighten the arm. I cannot perform boxy moments. I have issues reaching behind me and increased shoulder pain. If I try to scuba dive, I cannot reach my rear air empty. If I want to perform barbell squats, my arm cannot bend properly. The amount of pain, both emotional and physical, has followed me all this time. I could not recommend against her enough.
