I have used four of the doctors here for about 15 years. I love all of them especially Dr. Bradly Goodman, Dr. Mary Gilmer, Dr. Mark Mussel (now deceased), Dr. Gene Watterson. I trust them and have a great doctor/patient rapport with all I have used. - Ellen Louise Rhodes. I live in Alexandria, AL, and travel 50-60 miles one way to see them.

On 07/30 I woke up w/excruciating pain in my left hip. I contacted OrthoAlabama Spine Care and requested an appt w/Dr. Gullung, Appt scheduled for 08/05. Dr. ordered MRI right then. Sidekick Sam came in w/results of MRI; pointed out that there was very little disc btwn my L4 & L5 and that I was having muscle spasms; recommended a block. Dr. Gullung agreed; block scheduled following week. I'm in dire pain; Sidekick Sam tells me that pain relievers won't help muscle spasms; gave me a script for muscle relaxers. I go to get the block and have been "pawned off" on another Dr. Within 30 mins of leaving the facility, the pain was back. I called when I got back home and was told I had to give it 2 weeks for the block to work. I called 8 days later begging to see someone, made appt w/the Dr. that did first block. He looked at the MRI and said that it appears I had a bulging disc btwn the L3 and L4; was given another date to receive the 2nd block and told that they don't prescribe pain pills. 6 hrs after the 2nd block the pain was back. I called Dr. Givahn in Tuscaloosa and was able to see him on 8/19 He gave me a script for pain pills and a muscle relaxer; had surgery on 08/23 to remove fragments from the ruptured disc btwn L3 & L4. Sidekick Sam misdiagnosed; Dr. Gullung went along with diagnosis and I had to suffer the consequences for 24 days! Couldn't sleep, couldn't work; was absolutely miserable. Oh, and when I asked Dr. Gullung's nurse why I was pawned off on another Dr., her response was that he was too busy to do blocks. I NEVER saw Gullung again and I hope I never do.

Second time we have needed to use the ortho urgent care. First time, my wife broke a toe right before they were getting ready to close and they stayed open just to see her. I was having some back and hip pain and scheduled an appt to see them Wednesday, but my pain and discomfort kept me up all night so I went in today (Saturday) during the walk-in clinic and they were just amazing! I was seen by an NP, William Recknor, and he was very attentive to my needs and questions. My wife is an NP and my background includes a couple years in orthopedic billing and coding, so I am not the easiest patient (lots of questions) and he handled me very well. In my career Ive worked with Ortho clinics across the country and I would rank Ortho Spine and sports towards the top for the facility, professionalism, and patient care.
