The Lodge Features

The Ridgewood is arguably an architectural gem amongst wilderness lodges in

Alaska, built by Kevin Sidelinger using timbers from the Pacific Northwest and

Alaska, creating a building that complements the surrounding wilderness. The

Ridgewood features 360 degree wrap-around decks with views of majestic

mountains, including oceans, miles of beaches, secluded salt-water coves and

estuaries, and manicured lawns and gardens surrounded by native Alaskan forest

& vegetation.

image The Sidelingers arranged every detail of our stay and our excursions. I couldnt have imagined a better 5 days in Alaska. Halibut, King Salmon, Glacier hiking and kayaking, Bear/Moose/Wolf/Volcano Flight Tour in a bush plane, hikes of Halibut Cove complete with bald eagles - we left nothing in the tank and loved every minute. Each day, they provided family style home cooked feasts for dinner, a hearty & tasty breakfast, and Lucinda always made us lunches to go that were far more than we could eat for every excursion. We will 100% be back and hopefully soon! The relaxing atmosphere of the actual lodge, the amazing views in every direction, and hosts that truly have their priorities in all the right places are all rare finds these days!

image My family and I spent the afternoon at the lodge and it was amazing. Kevin, Lucinda, and Jess were gracious hosts and gave us a tour of the lodge and grounds. It's beautiful. Great folks with a passion for Alaska and helping their guests enjoy their vacation. Looking forward to going back!

image (Translated by Google) We were welcomed by the whole family and that was a very nice entrance. The house is indeed like a family but with 3 generations in one house. There are fixed times for dinner and breakfast that you must strictly adhere to. The meals are Home cooked meals that are mostly large but there are no choices what to eat. Beverage is exclusively water and coffee that you have to ask for yourself. The view is fantastic but for the amounts you have to pay (think more than 1100 USD per day) it is very (very expensive). With a stay of 2 nights you have a 6 hours tour which was really nice but no drinks on board. . Table talks are about religion (indeed praying before meals) and about Alaska, which they are very interested in.
I would rather spend the night in Homer and do tours from there.

image What can i say... We felt like family. When we arrived the men greated us at the dock, took us up by four wheeler. The 2 boys welcomed us at the door, then in the kitchen the women greated us. After getting into our rooms we were asked if we'd like to go on a hike, which was not too long and not the easiet.. But it was well worth it for the views. Theres no city lights or sirens so the peace and quiet with the view just takes ur breath away. They have coffee constantly which is freshly brewed each time. For dinner we had fish, veggies, rice, beet salad. My son is 12 and ate every bit. She doesnt cook the same thing twice even if u love it, only to out do herself in the next meal you will love. Breakfast was amazing, eggs wrapped in bacon with freshly made jam ( i could have just eatten by the spoon full) and i can keep going on about food but i think you get the point. We headed out in the morning to go fishing after sleeping like babies in the comfortable beds. The owners son took us out, at first he comes off like hes real strict and just doing a "job" but then after the instuctions and we were out on the water hes like the best traveling human google you could ask for. The son new soo much about the island, the history of alaska, the birds, otters, sea lions, whales, eagles, trees, coal, you name it. He was so enjoyable to have as a guide that when we go back we will be going fishing again. Its was my son and i along with a couple that had never fished before, he took us to all the places he had caught fish before and nothing was biting, and he didnt give up. He took us to one last place and we caught a king salmon. Even though he knew that his mom had already had dinner planned and probably already started to make it he offered to have it cooked for dinner. We finished up fishing and he gave a final wrap around tour of the sea and bird island along with the camp where his parents met. The human factor that came out was so nice to see, we laughed all day. We headed in and he made sure if anyone wanted to watched how the fish was cut and cleaned they could.. Or just take a pic before it was cleaned. We headed back to the house and his wife and mother always welcome u with a contagious smile. They had a little snack made and fresh coffee and we sat and talked for a litter before dinner. Dinner again was amazing and she made a gravy like sauce for the salmon that again could have been eatten by the spoon full. The son sat up and talk for a few hours with us before we had to head to bed because we were heading out early in the morning. We woke up to the daughter ( again smiling ) and along came the mom smiling as she says good morning. The dad wakes up early too and is the most athletic older man you can imagine, he also is the one who takes you back to the dock to head into homer. The only thing i would have changed about my trip, would be to stay with them longer. They will be the reason we look back on our trip and smile. Thank you to all of them
