Kenai River Cowboys

Flew in from San Antonio, TX and had chartered with the Kenai River Cowboys. My daughter had never fished before and I wanted to celebrate her birthday the day before by taking her fishing. We met our guide, Dusty and his dog, River, and along with two other people got in the boat near Centennial Park in Soldotna. Dusty knew the best fishing spot like the back of his hand. He is so mater of fact and convinced that his customers are going to catch their limit of fish. He wasn't wrong. Dusty absolutely knows his stuff. It was amazing to see him cast his line in the water and almost every time would hook a fish at will. We fished about half the day, caught our limits and were headed down the river on a sight seeing float. You absolutely cannot go wrong by booking this charter. Ask for Dusty

Had a wonderful experience with Captain Matty on the river! Very friendly and knowledgeable. We had some first time fisherman in our group and he made it very easy to learn. Took us to a great spot where we all quickly hit our limits. We will be returning next year! Highly recommend.

Our family has been out with Captain Matty for kings a couple times and reds recently. It has always been a fun, professionally run, safe trip. And most importantly he puts you on the fish!

This is my second time going to Soldotna Alaska, this time I decided to bring my 7, 10 year old boys and my wife. I was not really sure how it was going to work out and I was bit concerned for my boys being in the Kenai River; however after talking to Matty (Fishing guide) over the phone he did not seem worried and assured me the kids would have fun. July 22, 2021, the day came and we met with Matty at the boat ramp. He provided waders for all of us and PFDs for my boys. Once we arrived at the location he decided to keep my boys in the boat until day light for safety concerns and I 100% agreed. In the mean time my wife and I started fishing. Matty was very attentive and explained to us the fishing technique to fish for sockeye salmon. Within the first five minutes my wife had her first fish. Once there was enough daylight to see, we moved to a shallower area of the river where my boys where able to get off the boat and catch some fish. This is a timeline of how it went: at approximately 0330hrs met with Matty at boat ramp. At approximately 0400hrs at fishing spot. At approximately 0530 hours limited out done with fishing! We were catching fish so fast Matty was running all over the place. lol! During the entire fishing trip Matty was very professional, courteous, humble, down to earth and very attentive. Even after the fishing trip I texted him for some equipment rental advice and he responded right away. I would not hesitate to book another fishing trip with Matty “Kenai River Cowboys” you rock! Throughout the rest of the trip my family kept talking about how much they enjoyed the experience and how cool Matty was! Kenai River Cowboys, see you next year when we return!
