San Mateo Gymnastics in Belmont

No frills gym, great foundation for future athleticism. My daughter's been going here for a couple months and I'm pretty happy with how it's going, and she enjoys it a lot more than other classes she's done. Pros: Huge facility. Tots are separated from older kids who are obviously training for serious competition. Kids get exposure to using all types of equipment. Teacher is structured and has good control of a very wiggly group. More than one tot class runs concurrently and all of them are orderly which is absolutely key for safety. The little kids are in a separate room from the main gym but still occasionally go into the big gym for short use of big kid equipment. For those with older girls, they are strict against taking pics in the facility overall and I appreciate that. Ventilation is decent. Price is average for activities in the bay but worth it for the amount of learning packed into 45 minutes. Cons: Not gonna lie- it's a dated facility and smells like a gym sock. It's either a converted warehouse or industrial garage so it's either cold or hot. This is a real-ass gym, not a cutesy fun house. Only the little kid annex has like cute murals. I would not recommend it as a party venue unless they only use the little kid part, but I've not attended any parties held here. No auto pay for monthly bills, it seems. Parking is tough - their own lot is small and street side can be challenging due to pump it up being across the street.

This gym kept from my child a scholarship offer from a college they didn't think was very good. That college finish in the top 16 college rankings last season. That choice was not theirs to make. In addition, the owner perjured herself by participating in giving false testimony in a legal declaration at the request of my ex in order to try and help my ex remove custody from me. It backfired on them. I would never take my child to this gym!

Our girls have been going to SMG for over 8 years. We recently left. The gym places 1st in alot of competitions but they seem to avoid Airborne, which is just as good. My review is about the facility. Thousands of dollars from monthly fees & we've never seen any type of upgrade to the facility. If you goto any other gym in the Bay Area, they seem to spend their money back into the gym. This place does not, it took them 6 years to get a big fan in the gym & 1 year to install it. They make the kids clean the gym & never upkeep it. The parent have to. Where does all the money go?
