What a great old building, and the people who care for it clearly love it. It still needs some work, but it's a great budget option for staying in death valley.

I haven't been there in a long time - 2007 is when we got to meet Marta Becket, so this review is about our experience then. Yes, the hotel is old and lacked many conveniences. It mattered little to us because we were so happy to experience this artistic masterpiece. We stayed in January, the place was on the chilly side, we stayed warm in our room and enjoyed ourselves. We got to attend a performance that featured Marta telling her life story. It was grand. The Opera House itself has an incredible mural - covers the inside - Marta painted an audience on the wall. We would happily return when we are out west again.

I loved Marta. And I just met Brooke who is now running the place. She's perfect for the job.

If I could give this 0 I would. By far the most disgusting hotel I have ever seen In my life. The outside of the building is falling apart , there is rubbish and debris everywhere. Our room had no hot water, the power points didn’t work, the room smelled of urine and mold, the bathroom was absolutely disgusting with mold and wood rot in the walls, the toilet area had what I hope was muddy hand prints on the walls. The hallways have roped off areas with rotten sunken floors and danger signs. The hotel looks nothing like the photos, they’re a blatant lie and fabrication. My wife and I booked this hotel for the purposes of going to Death Valley. It is not worth the cost, it is not worth 10 dollars a night, it is not worthy staying there for free. This hotel might have been great at one point but it no longer is. We almost drove by thinking it was an abandoned building in the middle of the desert. It looks like a building left after a war. The manager is not reasonable, my wife and I checked in at the check in time and immediately checked out. We asked for a refund and they said they didn’t do refunds with in 24hrs of the date you stay. Which normally would be fine but we weren’t changing plans for the fun of it. There is no way to know how disgusting this place is untill you get there. We lost 125$ to this place. My only advise is if you need to stop to go to Death Valley, camp or drive to another town.
