Harmony California, population 18, a partially restored artist colony, is located at the crest of a hill along Highway 1, about five miles South of Cambria California. Use care, at highway speeds, the entrance comes up quickly. The HARMONY VALLEY CREAMERY was once a milk processing plant. Now, from time to time, various businesses and eateries open here. A small, lovely, non denomination, wedding chapel is located behind the building. Until recently there was a post office with its own zip code. The POTTERY GALLERY, has a collection of locally created ceramic objects for purchase. The WINE TASTING ROOM at the top of the hill, is comfortably dark and cool. A friendly sommelier helps with your selections. An antique ICE CREAM TRUCK dispenses artesian ice creams. No vegan flavors are available. A small garden offers a comfortable place to enjoy the cool treats. My hangout is the HARMONY GLASS WORKS. Under the guidance of Harmony Glass Works' instructors, you shape and blow molten glass to create useful objects. It's exciting, and at first rather scary, to hold 2000 degree glowing glass with only a few sheets of wet newspaper between the malleable glass and your hand. Your object is created on day one and then sits in a cooling chamber for 24 hours. You can then pick it up the next day, or have it shipped. Over the years I've blown and molded bowls, dishes, and assorted glass chickens, for my wife. For my granddaughter, a glob of liquid glass became a smiling, crackled-glass snowman, with coal black eyes, twig arms, and an orange carrot nose. The wheelchair accessible retail area has glass sculptures, glass sinks and jewelry. Each is one-of-a-kind. The prices range from a few dollars to many thousands of dollars. The artists and teachers also do custom work. Crating and shipping is offered. Free parking is in a wheelchair accessible gravel lot. There maybe some difficulty transversing the short distance between the car and the paved street. The bathrooms, located across the paved private street, are ADA compliant.
