Castroville Public Cemetery

My whole mom's side of family was born and raised in Castroville AND buried at moss landing, but when she died in 2019, they wouldn't accept her because she wasn't a Castroville resident, but she lived in Watsonville when she died. She was the last of our family that were pretty much founding residents. Her last wish was to be buried there, so rather than bury her somewhere else, I had her cremated and she sits on my bookcase. The young female that answered my questions was rude, and sounded like she didn't want to be bothered. She was curt, short, and extremely rude, especially at such a difficult time for me. It still dwells on my conscience  smh. Sincerely, Linda

Sprawling local cemetery with tombstones dating to the mid-19th century, and some as recent as the past year.  It's got such a wide variety of markers and stories -- really a great place to visit and weave together local history.  Many of the gravesites have benches and chairs -- bring a book or a camera and hang out for a bit.  At the back end of the cemetery, there's a path that leads to a gate to the street that runs along the south side of the cemetery. You will see feral kitties and if you continue walking into the neighborhood -- you'll see artwork on gates and garage doors.  Don't miss on the home of Nancy Russell - local artist whose motto is "live like a monk, decorate like a diva."

Great local cemetery right off Highway 1 by the cafe on the south end of town. You can't miss the display of flowers that is signature of the Mexican culture of nowadays. Interestingly enough the original burials were of Irish and maybe Italians. Very enjoyable to wander around, plenty of parking on the roads through the cemetery, wide open and viewable from town. I will be back!
