I realize it's COVID season, but frankly, I don't think this location meets the Residence Inn brand quality.
I've stayed at several Residence Inns across the country. The room is small with very narrow walking space between beds and wall. The fixtures look dated, like 70s or 80s style. The bathtub looks dirty or rusty, or something like that. I will say that the front desk area appears to have been renovated and updated, but it pretty much stops there. The parking spaces are all cramped, which is especially annoying since my rental car was "upgraded" to an Escalade.
Add on top of my gripes above, COVID restrictions and poor California legislation in handling the matter are not helping the situation. The swimming pool is not open, yet a quick check of CDC or other legitimate online resources clearly indicates that a properly maintained pool that is chlorinated will inactivate the virus. In my home state of Utah, swimming pools and splash pads are open, were heavily utilized in the summer months, and continue to be used. Even when my family was vacationing in Idaho earlier this year, we visited a water park and had a great time.
I do credit the hotel personnel in handling of COVID situations, as they wear masks and gloves, operating under the restrictions that are beyond their control. I realize the complimentary breakfast will be grab-n-go, with a hotel employee serving that which is requested, again due to COVID. But with the reduced menu of options as compared to a fully operational situation, the hotel should have less expense. (and the hotel appears to have good occupancy since the parking lot was 3/4 full of cars, causing me some difficulties in parking a Cadillac Escalade rental car). Plus, I'm irritated that there doesn't appear to be returns for more breakfast. I have 3 kids on this trip, each with big appetites. The first visit to the grab-n-go counter, with a significantly reduced menu of options, didn't suffice. When my son went back for more, he didn't feel welcomed in requesting food.
When I checked in late last night, I was surprised to be billed $20 per night parking fee. Ok - I admit, I didn't review the fine print which is stated on the Marriot website for this location. But, I'm still frustrated by the charge.
My next complaint is not entirely the fault of the facility but that of other customers. The parking spots are already crammed and then to find several vehicles poorly parked, such as straddling parking lines and taking two spots. Arriving at 1am and dealing with other hassles, I am definitely not a happy customer.
In summary, as stated at the beginning, I really don't see this location as meeting the Marriot Residence Inn quality. I'm further frustrated by the COVID over restrictions, which may actually be complicated by poor California legislative response.

Big rooms, decent price, not as clean as I'd like but not filthy either. Good amount of guest parking. Could use larger trash cans in the two bedrooms. Otherwise, nice visit would stay there again.
