Vehicle Catalytic Converter lesson. Driving my wife’s Infinity QX80 SUV when the check engine light turns on. Quick visit to the dealership where they offer to diagnose the problem for $179. I later learned the diagnosis takes about two minutes. They tell me the right catalytic is depleted. No problem, it can be fixed for a bargain at $3,269.38. They then suggest if one has gone, we should expect the other to go out soon as well. The real kick to the knee is when they offered to buy our QX80 at a fire sell price but they would offer us a great deal on a new car, but the deal was only good for one day since the sale was ending. WHAT A JOKE!! I called several great repair shops in the Conroe area and went with “It’s Just mufflers” on 3083. Electronic diagnosis was quick and free. They showed the types of new Catalytic converters available and even ones necessary for California emissions. Total cost out the door in two hours was $699 + tax. The lesson here is be cautious of high end dealership pricing for expendable items.true Ripp off!!! I highly recommend Just Mufflers. The shop is clean, inventory is well stocked and stacked, and more importantly, great staff!!
