My.dad Kenny Rupp and his friend and owner Tony Tobin built the western town that runs down “main street†at Woodchuck. My.siblings and I loved to camp there in our Nomad trailer. We were safe there, we could run, hike, bike, and especially fish in the three ponds there. We spent so much time there it was like a second home to us. My dad was always getting other families to join us - from our church and our neighborhood in South Shores (San Pedro California)
I miss camping there SO much, I hope to God it’s still there. As soon as I get my Jeep in good shape I plan to visit Woodchuck. Tony Tobin and his wife Mildred were the owners, they are both deceased now, unfortunately. Mildred told us that her grandfather purchased all the land that Woodchuck was (I think 60 acres but I was a kid when she told us so I could be wrong about the acreage) for one black bull. Thank you to the Indians for doing that because it provided a wonderful playground for us kids, both young and old “kidsâ€.

No longer in business. It closed down. I wish Google would take this down.

I have not had any experience here other than tonight on February 07, 2018
I watched this story on Death Valley Days. It was such a nice story about trading the land for a fine black bull to the Indians so he could build a house for his future wife.
What an interesting story. I for fun googled it and found the movie was just as your story here. What a cool place to come to for a vacation. I love Death Valley Days movies and the true stories of our history. Thank you. Bonita Keller
