Sadly, I have to write a one star review because of the sloppy operation at Severed Ties. I had put into consignment 2 crystal decanters and 12 crystal wine goblets. The 2 decanters sold and it took many weeks to get paid. When I inquired about getting paid (many times) I was told that the check was mailed, then the bookkeeper was out, then Covid hit so there were no replies (email still works during a pandemic). Eventually I had to go in person to pick up the check. I don't know if the delay was purposeful, or just plain sloppy record keeping...still, the challenge to get paid made me upset. When I went to pick up the wine goblets because they could not sell them, I was told that 1 broke. Because the contract states that it's not Severed Ties' responsibility, all I got was a "sorry." We all know that an 11 piece set, is not complete, with a much lower valuation. In addition, when I picked up the goblets, I discovered that a second goblet was chipped. And...the padded container I left with Severed Ties, was nowhere to be found. They gave me a cheaper, stained container that was not mine. Overall, their communications, record keeping, payments and safeguarding of customer items is poor. Unfortunately, I must advise others to be cautious about consigning their items with Severed Ties.

The most recent consignment I made was to Severed Ties in New Canaan, CT.  Upon the items not selling after a very long time was a set of twelve (12) place settings of bone china dishes, I went to pick them up.   Upon packing, it was apparent that several items were missing.  There had been no communication about the missing items.  While the contract is clear that they are not responsible for the items, it was strange that things were missing without anyone communicating a problem.  This was a perfect set of twelve now greatly devalued.  One can only imagine all sorts of things that could have happened to the missing items.  Upon questioning, no one in the shop owned up to any excuse for the missing pieces, except to say they were probably broken without any evidence of breakage.  The owner refused to make good on this expensive set. I would suggest that there is something unethical about no notice of missing items.  Did they break?  Or did something else happen t them?  So if you want to consign items, I would suggest you consider the ethics of the shop being part of your vetting process.
