When I first began working with Barbell PT, I was dealing with years-long running injury that resulted in chronic lower back, hip, calf, and foot issues. My recurring pain put a damper on my motivation to work out or even engage in mundane tasks, like walking to class. From day one, Ryan listened carefully to my actual concerns and tailored my treatment to my specific goals. He acknowledged how important it was for me to become more active and continue to improve at Crossfit and weightlifting while simultaneously becoming pain-free. Accordingly, he prescribed functional movements that would strengthen and increase mobility in areas that were actually connected to my performance, rather than cookie-cutter routines that I had already tried with prior physical therapists. Since integrating the programming that Ryan and Wes recommended into my warm-up and cooldown routines, I experienced significant relief. Now, I have almost no lower-body pain, despite training twice as much as I did prior to treatment. And I've really internalized the importance of consistent maintenance. Because Ryan and Wes were also exceedingly relatable and easy to talk to, I really looked forward to my weekly sessions with them. Physical therapy had always seemed like a chore before, but I really felt like both my process and results were as easy as could be at Barbell. I truly cannot thank them enough for helping me live a much more active and painless life. I now actually look forward to my workouts without any sense of dread, and I owe that to the Barbell PT team.

I came to Ryan with a herniated disc and nerve issues affecting my calf and foot. I was struggling to get back to running and lifting. I worked with Ryan for 12 weeks. He helped me improve my core strength, provided exercises for my legs and back. Working with Ryan was a far better experience than other PT and he helped me get back into the gym safely and comfortably.

I started going to Barbell PT with nagging forearm & shoulder injuries. After an initial evaluation from Ryan, I started weekly session where Ryan planned out specific movements that helped in my injury rehab. Once done, Ryan provided me weekly tasks to complete ( based on what we did during sessions). Ryan is very knowledgeable and was always in contact to see if I had any questions about the plan or anything pertaining to my injury. I hope I don't get injured again, but if I do my 1st call will be to Barbell PT

I came to Barbell PT after a preliminary assessment offered at Branford CrossFit for a persistence issues with what I thought was my hip. It was affecting the way I could lift, run and simple tasks of walking up stairs. After doing a preliminary assessment with Barbell, and the simple exercise they did that actually made the hip feel better, I knew there were greater recovery techniques to come. Working with Mike Velasquez was an amazing experience as he educated me on the root of the problem, exercises to remedy and how to set the groundwork for future recoveries. His consistent yet, creative exercises kept me stimulated and motivated as I began to see progress to somebody who was hesitant about working with us." I've worked with other PT's before and the main difference I learned this time around was the importance of maintaining modified exercises while regaining strength and not just taking time off. I would highly recommend Barbell PT to anybody who refuses to accept the prognosis of "you need to take time off!"

I pulled my hamstring in September which lead to back pain, and I came here to work on getting back to playing volleyball and lifting without pain. The assessment and treatment was a well-written plan that was easy to follow and helped me to strengthen my hamstring and reduce my back pain significantly. Since the appointments were online, I was able to have them remotely, from my college in Boston. Through my appointments, the pain had been reduced enough for me to finish practice and lift with little to no pain. The one-on-one work with Ryan was really helpful for me to get a personalized experience and there were regular updates weekly. Overall, I felt like it was a positive and beneficial experience for my injury. It was a little cumbersome to send in the paperwork to my insurance, instead of having it go directly through, but that would be my only negative as the treatment was very effective and accommodating for me.
