Howard Johnson Inn University Newark

This is a great hotel, they accommodate you in every way you need, the rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable. We all really enjoyed our stay here and will definitely book again in the future! Highly recommend this place!

Very well worth the price. Stayed six nights and the only complaints were the heat was hard to get comfortable (too cold or too hot, hard to find a middle ground) and the fridge was too cold (some drinks froze). The free breakfast was nice. Would stay here again.

The room was okay, the price made it worth it. ...except the towels did not smell clean. So take a whiff of the towels, n u should b good. The bed was very comfy, gotta say that it was so comfy, I over slept

I was pleasantly surprised by the room considering the other reviews. The beds were okay (about what you'd expect for a budget motel), room was clean, bathroom was fine... basically what you'd expect from a cheap hotel. However the man at the front desk quoted me one price when I checked in but then gave me a higher price when I went to check out. I couldn't believe he would just make up a higher price the next day and questioned him about it and him and the other person at the desk said "he must have made a mistake" about the price when I checked in. Either way, make sure you get a price in writing when you check in because who knows what they'll try to say when you go to check out. Based on that this place only gets a two star review- you can't just say one thing and completely make up another price, giving a "mistake" as an excuse. Fortunately the price was only $10 higher than he promised me when I checked in but this was the last time I'll be staying at this hotel... unacceptable.

While the hotel accomadations and location were adequate, the office staff were a gigantic collection of bumbling fools. I unfortunately had to have an extended stay here before I was able to get my apartment, and more than once my payment was screwed up because 'I used a debit card.' More than once I was charged double for my length of stay, and this was 'solved' by them simply deducting the amount from my next length. Finally, the night before I checked out, the 'tech service' tried to rectify this by trying to deduct close to $3000 from my account over a total of 10 transactions. Luckily, these did not go through. However, instead of charging me one night for my final night, they charged me for an entire week. A mistake for which >I< will have to rectify with my bank. A horrible hotel, you're better off sleeping in your car, or in the woods for that matter.
