My fiancée and I came for dinner looking for innovative ‘Latin American’ cuisine not realizing it was a hotel restaurant. So, we tried it out anyway. It was the kind of hotel restaurant where they ask for your room number when you sit down, clearly not designed to cater to or impress folks living in the area. It was OK hotel food, but not great restaurant food. Everything we ordered tasted like it was frozen and/or canned and reheated. That works pretty well for fried things like chicken wings or batter fried seafood but not great for things like spare ribs that came on top of mashed potatoes in a gross can-like sauce. Worse, the dishes seemed to be designed by people who had never tried eating them. Buffalo chicken wings, for instance, don’t come with a dipping sauce. You can ask for it, they give it to you for free, but it doesn’t ‘come’ with it. Likewise, the fried calamari and mixed seafood is great, but only comes with a tiny bit of mayo-based sauce sprinkled on a few select pieces on top. Now, either you like the sauce and want to have it with more than 3 bites or you don’t and you eat around it…but what sort of diner would like the sauce but only want it on a few pieces of a big fried seafood platter? The other thing was that it was expensive. More than $100 for a frozen/canned dinner for two. This would be an OK dinner option if I was staying at the hotel and too exhausted after a flight to leave the hotel, but not a place I would take my fiancée again.
