I attended this school from kindergarten to 6 grade back in the 90s and some of the teachers I had were racist and extremely condescending. Mr.Karpa, Mrs.Fegatbaum (However you spell it, it's been years) and Ms. Hugo (if she still goes by that) traumatized me as a child. These people gave me nightmares and extreme anxiety.Ms.Hugo actually sent me home with an envelope of money to give to my parents because she thought my family was SO poor that they couldn't afford to buy me any new clothes, all because "I would apparently wear the same shirt all the time." I had multiples of the same shirt growing up, my family was not poor, but of course she just wanted to be judgmental and assume she was doing the right thing without even asking. Another incident that occurred with her was when she noticed I was drawing a picture and told me that I shouldn't draw because my drawing was the most hideous thing she ever seen. WHO THE HELL SAYS THIS SORT OF THING TO A CHILD?? I remember I was so upset and cried to my dad about it, he then wrote a letter for me to give to her letting her know what she said upset me and was not right to say. She then tore up the letter and just laughed and told me "I was only kidding." She was constantly berating me about my appearance, my mannerisms, and anything that was personal. Why hire an individual like this to work in a school with children??? Disgusting behavior.Now Mr.Karpa and Ms.Fegetbaum...Mr.Karpa was constantly yelling at the top of his lungs to the point you could see the veins in his neck popping out. He was constantly yelling at the class and saying how worthless we all are because we don't know how to shut up. His little helper, Ms. Fegetbaum however was the worse. Now that I had time to reflect on my childhood as an adult, I look back and see just how racist this woman was with her racial micro aggression comments. I remember this one girl who was white told her and announced it in front of the class that she didn't do her homework and Ms.Fegetbaum just responds with "awww, it's ok sweetie" however, whenever one of the children of color forgot to do their homework just one time or forgot to answer a question, she would get extremely frustrated and say comments that I believe were racial micro aggression comments. She actually told me one time "well of course you would forget to do your homework, that's typical of your kind, you should of thought about doing that sooner" and then proceeded to scoff and roll her eyes.I don't know how the school is today, but I wanted to share my experience and leave a review. I'm certain not much has change, since it seems that the former gym teacher is now the principal? Makes me wonder if there is any nepotism....Hopefully these individuals don't work at this school or any other schools because they really were traumatizing, and I'm not the only student whose has similar experiences with them.
